Work from home or office?
So I gotta make my decision here within the next week. I can rent a decent sized office out for 300/month (I already work in the office space with a friend that is closing his business and know the owners really well) or I can just work from home.
Pro's of the office are getting out of the house, actually seeing/talking to people that are out on the street (office is on the main street) only con really is buying desks/hardware and rent. I'm leaning towards the office just so I don't have the distractions of being at home and I would be getting out of the house. I can also hire a part time employee as well with the office space available. Being at home is what most people would love to do, saving on rent is always good, but then alot more people ask wtf you do since you are at home all day. I tend to find myself getting bored and doing other things when I work from home. Just looking for other peoples opinions on the subject. |

If you go from office to home... or home to office... I say it's about a 3 month adjustment.
If you work from home and don't get out much you'll go insane in 6 months. If you work from an office you'll go insane after 6 months too.

I work from the office at my deli a few days each week. It's nice to get out of the house. I get more work done when I'm at home though. So it's a trade off. Here (I'm at the deli right now) there's always something else that needs attending to.

For $300 a month I would keep the office and go in 2-3 days a week just to break it up. I've been doing that for about a year. when Tim and Ray (old Mobbucks partners) were there we all came in full time but after i bought them out It was just me. I liked having a place outside the home but just gave it up because it was 27 miles from my house in NY traffic .. it took me about 45 mins each way. I decided to just work from home and built a nice home office. It's cool but you do need to make sure you get out a bit.

Your home office should pretty much be the same writeoff.

I worked from home for years, but have slowly gotten used to working in an office and I like it. When I worked from home, it always felt like I was on the clock and I'd find myself staring at a computer monitor until 4am. How, I have a "normal" life and as much as I hate the commute (damn vegas traffic), it's a nice routine and I make more time for myself after hours.

When I started working from home I adopted a dog right away. This way I actually get outta the house a few times a day for a walk, and I meet up with neighboring dog owners.
Working at home takes discipline, you've got to make time for breaks and sleep, but I love it

I have an office 350 a month best part is that nobody knows where it is so nobody stops by no distractions much more productive than at home.

I did 3 years at the home office and it was great at first.
Then I noticed that I was really not leaving the house for days at a clip, or hitting food stores at 11pm... Slowly the human interaction was going away in most areas of life... not bad as there are no lines, no waiting :-) I started to get to where I couldn't relax when friends were over the house and we'd be in the office hanging out since it also a really large living room / kitchen area in the office here. I built it as a chill palace for the long days spent working in here....and all I wanted to do was work since it was there nagging at me in my mind to do 1 more email 1 more thing to make 1 more dollar ...etc. In the end, I hated it, got office space and head there sometimes 5 days a week other times, 1 day, maybe 3 ... depends on my moods. Its nice to get out, mix with other folks and just have a choice of places to go bust out the master plan from. |

I love working from home. I get more done professionally and personally. I don't have to worry about a commute, or drive time, and all of the other distractions that happen in an office. At the same time, if I want to run downstairs and do laundry or take a shower at 11am.. it's not an issue.
Not to mention the write off.

It is a tough one. Personally I prefer working from home...but it can be hard to divide work time from "my" time. Good luck with your decision

some good replies here. Seems alot of people are split on the decision as well but most prefer to stay at home and work.
