Yeah, learned that the hard way as well. Not the hydration part though. I have consistently drank at least 64oz to a full gallon every day for the past 10 years.
But, as my muscle mass shot up I tried to keep up with my protein intake. We are talking well over 300g of protein a day average.
30 to 50 grams per serving of the best shit money can buy 3-4 times a day. Isopure, ON, Muscle Milk etc. I usually hit around 150g from shakes alone.
Then, the pressure in my back came. Not comfortable pressure but it was that, "Oh shit, something is seriously wrong pressure!" I spent time adjusting my diet & training by dropping stuff out to see what was causing it... I even wondered if it could be all the fat in the muscle milk. Nope, it was the protein. The Doc confirmed it. Whey was the biggest culprit because it shoots straight to the bloodstream.
So, I cut protein out altogether and ramped up gradually to see what my tolerence actually was while giving my poor kidneys a rest in the process. I found that when I decreased the amount of daily protein down to just 1g per pound instead of the standard fitness magazine brainwashing that you need 1.5g to 2g per lb guess what... no muscle loss, better health.
Now I get about 60 g from shakes and the rest from natural food.
I don't drink big post workout shakes anymore, but I do sip on a mix of complex and simple carbs plus 20g of protein during my workout (Optimum Nutrition)... a muscle milk lite RTD or shake during the day with a fruit snack and ON's Pro Complex PM at night.
Remember, guys in prison get huge without all this extra crap so eating right and being smart about your routine is really all we need. Don't let the magazines brainwash you.I've trusted my sites to them for over a decade...

Bad idea. You will want to gain weight by lifting weights and eating enough healthy food spread out through out the day according to how much you weigh.Comment

Yeah, age, he he. Really don't complain, you probably don't have an especially fast metabolism anyway, that's just one of those nonsense things people say that they base on almost nothing. You do NOT want to lower your metabolism. A truly fast metabolism is good, and usually only comes when you pack on some muscle which burns calories in your body even at rest.
If you eat enough healthy food and lift weights you will gain muscle, lose fat if you have any and eventually gain weight and raise your metabolism.Last edited by Jim_Gunn; 05-01-2007, 04:10 PM.Comment

Creatine is EVIL! I don't touch the stuff anymore. Especially the new breed of creatine based products like White Blood and N02 stuff.
It's not like steroids or anything, like a lot of uneducated anti-exercise fools say, but nothing good comes from that stuff over the long term. What it does to your body isn't really a good thing and all results are only temporary. Stop taking it and you deflate like a balloon.
Me personally, I like to see my real results as they happen. Creatine and hemilodators don't allow you to see what's really going on with your development.I've trusted my sites to them for over a decade...

yeah pretty much. i am done with it. i am lucky i can put my size back on pretty easy if i eat right, eat more and stay focused, never used creatine ever until this time round. i will never use it again. it really made me ill, coupled with all the taurine in the stuff i was taking. its not a nice feeling.
i'll stick with my xyience weight gain, it seems to fill in the holes that i may be skipping with the meals.
the msot important thing to me is to keep drinking the water so my kidneys dont get pissed at me.
yeah sperminator, the 50gs i meant was from the shake. all in all im getting about 120grams.
im 142 now, i hope to hit 160 by july, naturally. im eating damn near everything that isnt tied down.Comment
