Can't currently fly out of Toronto without a passport. They only allow you across the borders with your normal ID now when driving. Next year they won't even allow that.

Just wondering?

Yep because they don't like to hear about work being farmed outside the US. It's part of the NAFTA bs. I dealt with it a few times before. The best thing to do is say that you are part of the canadian branch of a US company, they can't give you bones about it then because you aren't in violation of NAFTA, you just need someone at the company in the US to "confirm" it.

madawgz 04-30-2007 12:21 PM

wow thats really fucked up

StuartD 04-30-2007 12:22 PM

NAFTA is all about give and take.

Canada gives everything to the US and the US takes everything from Canada.

International airports in Canada have their own US immigration offices built in. If he were to be denied there he wouldn't have even boarded the plane.

He makes me very proud. He already insists on having his own keyboard to pound away on :1orglaugh

Wow 21 months already? Man it sure goes by fast...before you know it you'll be taking him out for his first driving lesson.

I was helpin raise my two nieces, the youngest was 1, and she's now 15. I can't believe she's in High School already.

I know you are...but I can't stress it enough...enjoy it now man, soak up every ounce of it, because there will come that time when they just don't seem to have enough time for you.

so they took your fingerprints while having absolutely no intention of letting you go thru whatever the results were? lol You got played alright.. Next thing you know they'll start to ask for DNA samples.. along ofcourse the passport... starting in 2008 i think.. Me think they should focus a bit more on the south border instead.. lol

CDSmith 04-30-2007 12:43 PM

Stu, next time wait for the female border guard and then put on some of that Axe body spray. The commercials don't lie, women can't resist you with that on.

you'll get through, trust me. :D

lol j/k that is pretty fucked up. So they are no longer letting webmasters in the US because of their job?

sextoyking 04-30-2007 01:03 PM

That sucks Stuart.

Mabey get a passport and try again flying direct..

Do passports in Canada take along time to get?

I don't recall ever going through immigration while leaving Canada through an airport until I reach the US.

As for the passport thing......That, I was not aware of. I thought a passport was now required for any travel into or out of the US. hmmmm.

yeh I got hit leaving BC a few yrs ago by us customs in BC.. It was wierd seeing us customs in a canadian airport...

tASSy 04-30-2007 01:14 PM

i've spent hours trying to get into canada for some reason...maybe i should take that as a sign. :upsidedow

NinjaSteve 04-30-2007 01:28 PM

That sucks. Next time say you're a programmer. Or McDonalds manager.

Technically that part of the airport is US soil. All US laws apply there.

Brad Gosse 04-30-2007 01:31 PM

You should have told them that by denying you access the terrorists win LOL

Were we worth the wait?

CybermedAndy 04-30-2007 01:36 PM

My sympathies, went through the EXACT same thing 2 years ago

Its infuriating

czarina 04-30-2007 01:38 PM

that's messed up... When you think about it, doctors can do their jobs from anywhere in the world, but I dont think they are turning doctors around at the border.

BVF 04-30-2007 01:42 PM

that's stupid...If you were a mexican saying you were about to go pick oranges, you would have been swiftly let in.

JohnnyPearl 04-30-2007 01:42 PM

Same shit happen to me. In my case I told them if I was going down to the US to work, wouldn't I have a laptop with me with all my saved work. It's kinda hard to work on the beach without my laptop. After that they let me in like they were doing me a favor. Little did they know I had everything backed up on my server so I could work when I got down there. Dumbass. lol!

See, it's that attitude right there that probably got you denied... :winkwink:

Now if you were more like this guy, you could have breezed right in:

http://www.sfgate.com/c/pictures/200...rder_ny119.jpg

Quote:

US customs officials allowed Gregory Allan Despres, a clearly troubled person, into the United States from Canada. There were good reasons to worry about Despres:

He was carrying (presumably in his car) a homemade sword, brass knuckles, pepper spray, a hatchet, and—get ready—a blood-spattered chainsaw.

He was clearly delusional, talking about how he worked for the President of the United States.

And, as you can see from the photo, he could easily compete with Richard Reid, the wannabe shoe bomber, in a Most Likely to Be A Murderer photo contest.

Now, obviously, you can't detain a person because he looks creepy, and there were no outstanding warrants for Despres. Unfortunately, he was a murderer, and the blood on the chainsaw came from his victims.
Better luck next time...

And I really did have thoughts about going back through, but on the slim chance that they do pull that crap again, I'd be screwed. Plus, I'm pretty sure that I am now flagged. I doubt they'd spend that much time on me there and not try to screw with me somehow (other than how they already did today).

100% forsure u would have been flagged they keep track of people
who goes back to the border and try again .
ESPECIALLY the same day that it happened . It is
better that you don't even try cause you would
be double red flagged :disgust

Pete-KT 04-30-2007 02:18 PM

That sucks Stu,next time come over from the windsor, detroit border they are a lot easier on this side

that's not good.but it's way better than coping all your papers, passporrt, id's, driver licence, papers of everything you own just to prove that you have no intention to stay in the states, and still get no visa...That's bullshit:1orglaugh still life goes on

Get a passport ASAP. It'll save you tons of headaches.

SPACE GLIDER 05-01-2007 09:29 PM

Sometimes I wonder what country I'm living in

CDSmith 05-01-2007 10:17 PM

Every time I try to cross the border US customs officers want to arrest me for smuggling moose cock.

Every damn time I have to prove it's really mine.

Why wouldn't you have a passport?

d-null 05-01-2007 11:39 PM

I have no passport either and I drive across all the time.

Axeman 05-01-2007 11:52 PM

Were you heading to Sarasota?

Axeman 05-02-2007 10:20 AM

I find it much easier to enter the US with less questions if you fly from Canada and go thru customs at the airport. But if you live close to the border its so much cheaper to fly from the US than Canada.

oh my god how paranoic that usa country is ...

BradM 05-02-2007 10:35 AM

Stu - have fun trying again next time. You're flagged. When I was immigrating I had to go back and forth a few times and I always got pulled to the special room where they confirmed my itinerary. I had to have addresses, dates, names everything laid out before they would let me in and they documented all of it.

They don't mess around anymore - and let's be honest driving to FL for a 1 week vacation just sounds fishy these days especially for someone who says they are a programmer.

Boobs 05-02-2007 10:40 AM

thats just retarded now

Yeah he did have a flight from Buffalo so its not as bad as saying your driving to FL for a week vacation. But they are always leary having you drive in with your own car if they suspect you could be heading down to work for someone else or for yourself.

I don't get asked much what I do but I never say web/internet anything. rings their bell to much.
