The trailers and such promised a movie that would have some action in it, but the reality is that it is a "talkie" picture, and much of the dialog is subtle and not at all unimportant.
No Hollywood ending, no major gunplay, no James Bond chase scenes. Most importantly, the main character's reply to almost everything is a blank stare, which is truly annoying.
I went to see it with about 10 people, and 9 out 10 said "what a waste of time". IMHO it is a good DVD movie, because you can watch 30 minutes of it a night, and not get too bored of it. Otherwise you risk falling asleep in the middle.
Then you need to watch, "The Departed", chief with Damon, Walhberg, DiCaprio.
Nah. Saw The Departed. Liked it, but it wasn't a great film, particularly where a Scorsese film is concerned.
A great Scorsese film--and a great film at that--resonates.
You walk away from the theater thinking about the characters for weeks. They take on a life of their own in your head because they're compelling (ex. the characters in Goodfellas, Mean Streets, Raging Bull, Last Temptation of Christ).
The Departed, and again great action movie--probably haven't seen a better action movie in years--was not a great film. It was enormously entertaining, though. My opinion, anyway.
