1.00 GBP = 2.00725 USD

Mmmm... much as predicted - just wait till the end of the year MrChips.

You'll be able to even more for your money soon

Seriously... this is not going to change for a long while ahead - prob five or more years at least. There will be the usual blips on the screen to show a pulse, but it's a waste of time - dollar will be worth less.

Other problem for the US is they are paying thru the nose for foreign product now - ie paying with low value dollars. This will just help the dollar get even weaker - hence the verbal bullshit about a "trade war with China". Fact is any country is responsible for balancing their budgets, so China is not gonna be changing their currency to suit the US.

On the net side... if you think about .. eg a $25/month site membership. You are actually giving a surfer membership of your site for less that GBP 12.50 *lol* It's a friggin joke! There are some changes already, but can see more in the world of processing - plus increases in memberships of sites where the price is quoted in dollars.

Easy... double your prices!

Or... take a reasonable value currency (eg Euros) which is stable and base all prices on that - then show them in other currencies - dollars etc on sign up pages.

A number of processors also offer multi-currency options and "currency relevant" signup pages - just double (or whatever) the cost to those paying in US dollars.

If business/economics were really as simple as many people here represent, it would be a lot harder to find anyone willing to do garbage pickups.

Online porn is starting to pay for its complacency towards other markets and its near total focus on the US. If you were to double your price to US customers - who by and large are harmed rather than benefit from the fall in the value of the dollar - you would see much of that price increase wiped out by declining sales from what is - for most sites - by far the largest group of customers.

Nor would it be any consolation to non-dollar customers that they might - in their local currency - still be paying what you originally intended. They would also react negatively to what they would (rightly) see as a price increase.

Someone would need to do it to discover how much of the benefit would be wiped out. It would doubtless vary, harming most the sites which are already perceived as providing poor value. Karma comes in many forms...

Did that currency dump in... 2000 or 2001 - and since then just bought up assets which were valued in US dollars which have since increased... dunno... around eight fold

Smell more good deals on the way yet tho..

Hear ya jayeff and agree!

There was some thought given to this and to the bottom line. Sure, there were a reduced number of US sales etc - but the bottom line was healthy - it's all a balance and there is no point in bothering with regions where the return can be unprofitable.

Simple example which was produced by the finance world a few years back is the "Big Mac Index" - ie.. McDonalds have a price for a Big Mac in Ohio - that is not the same price they charge in.. eg Rome (it's considerably more). Using the Big Mac Index was the basis of website pricing - and also partly using processors who handled multi-currency with regional signup pages where membership pricing can be different to reflect strong/weak currencies.

We bill the surfer $29.95/EURO for European countries, which is about $40 USD

For our U.S. affiliates its great money

That's not a new concept and it is applied across just about every market. An extreme example is that I can buy a Californian-grown lettuce cheaper in London than here in Kansas. But everything from cars to liquor are not only priced differently, but sometimes presented as premium products in one country and regular ones in another.

The next wall that online porn will run into however, is that the internet is global. People are not walking into stores in a physical location to buy and walk out with a physical product.

This isn't an issue so long as the majority of sites which deliver access or downloadable products are charging the same rate to everyone. But if it becomes commonplace for membership of a porn site to cost $30 in the US and $60 in Europe, how long before someone comes up with a workaround?

We are talking a potential $360 a year saving. That's plenty to challenge the nerds out there and also enough for it to be worthwhile someone offering a commercial solution. There is plenty of room to charge a fee and still pass on a significant saving. Bear in mind too, the weakness of the US dollar is unlikely to be a temporary phenomenon: we could easily be looking at another 10+ years of it.

People who already have multi-currency solutions, have a breathing space, but no more than that. The more who follow suit, the more likely it is that a response will appear. It would be extremely naive to believe anything else.

Truth is... least in respective to the US, - this is a screwed market (not just talking about the adult industry). It's a market which consumes more than it can afford to pay and even when shipping the cheapest range of imports into the country - it still can't pay the bill. OK.. this is a US specific problem - but one of the main factors why the dollar is weak on the international market. Rest assured - this will not last.

Meantime, other western nations (least most of them) operate a stable fiscal policy and there is no reason on earth why anyone/nation needs to be dragged down by the internal consumption of the US.

It's a matter of get a grip and perform on an international basis - or shut up shop and live in a closet.

There are many factors at play here and plenty "workarounds" to implement - and little doubt these will be implemented as needed. At the same time, other markets are opening up - even now the EU has more seats looking at screens than the whole of North America.

There can be a plus for the US market in this - in that earnings in other currencies can be of more value (less than the $ as it is now). This equates to webmasters living in... eg some Eastern or South American countries where a signup is worth considerably more (or a dollar signup was worth considerably more).

Bottom line.. no webmaster operating a real business internationally on the net is going to bother about the internal problems of the US - they will either charge more dollars, change their pattern of trading or whatever to retain a healthy bottom line.
