Life is like a box of chocolates...
Working in adult has changed my life. Hopefully for good.
When I came to this industry I was basically poor. No other way to put it. I had a thriving shuttle business and then 9/11 happened and no one wanted to fly again. So I ventured into the unknown... I knew nothing about nothing and came to GFY looking for free porn. I saw posts about people making $1000 a day or more and decided to try and become one of those people. I rarely ask people for advice and often give it out. Today I am coming to you with a big thank you. I want to thank Joel Hall, Chris Mallick, Clay Andrews, Vlad Vladimas, Kevin and Paolo, Kevin and Rico, Steve Lightspeed, Ernesto and Rob, The TCG People, The Meat Cash People, The Ferro Cash People, 4Pics, Fred from Braincash and Bangman (Dave @ APC). Combined and with the help of a few others, you have all made me more wealthy than I have ever been in my life. I look forward to promoting more of the sites you are connected with. This is a picture of my new home. I am renting it since I have a feeling the market will slide or the interest rate will drop (both great for me)... But there is no way in hell I could rent a 5 bedroom house without you guys. ![]() And a special thanks to a guy who doesn't get nearly enough thanks because he has the most fucked up job in this industry by far, Keyzer Soze. My New Year's resolution for 2006 is to hit 100 sales a day ASAP... I will let you know how that goes as things develope... |

Do a search on GFY for affilaite program owners who bitch about affiliates... In the last 5 years there are actually quite a few... Guess what? Those affiliate programs are NOT in my sig. The ones in my sig love their affiliates and actually help you to make money. |

What you need to do first is understand how to gain traffic. Without traffic your kickass websites can't sell anything. Next you need to read one of my past threads about TGP's... perahps searching for 'free hits tgp trades' or something here at GFY... I have numberous posts where I spell out how to go from ZERO to 10K in 3 or 4 days without buying a shitload of feeder traffic. Have you ever tried blogging? I'd suggest you spend the next two weeks making 5 very different websites. A blog, a TGP, an MGP, a link dump and a link list. Then see which ones of those you seem to be good at and which you are not. Then ditch (or sell ???) the two worst and focus on the three best. Turn one of them into a money maker and then think about making 5 more things you didn't previously have experience in.... Everyone likes to talk about the dreaded plateau. How do I get over that fucking hill? Well, here is a big hint, and a quote- If you want something to change in your life, you have to make some changes. So stop doing what you are sucking at and start doing what you are good at. When I did TGP's for my income I was beginner-intermediate. But I did make some income. About $2800 a month. I realized at that point that I wasn't good at making and running TGP's... But hey, atleast I made money while learning the mistake. So what did I learn? #1 - You cannot do it alone most of the time. These TGP's with 1 million hits have admins, designers, etc... Account managers... One person does NOT run a TGP by themself. The TGP owner might be making $400K to $600K but on top of that, the TGP generated MILLIONS! Who got paid that money? The submitter/partners did. But without those guys the owner couldn't have fresh galleries and grow to be 1 million hits a day. #2 - You probably won't make a million dollars with your first idea. Many of the people here are not making that much money on their first domain. It takes some failures to find the golden ideas. Keep looking and realize that failure is the foundation of success. Rick Latona is a good example. He has followed in the footsteps of countless others and has created more unbeaten paths than most others. But he has.... shit... I dunno... 5 things he is really good at and another 10 that make more than you do and another 20 that still do and then another 50 that he had to cut loose because they didn't turn into the next big thing. He has a shitload of employees. So we are going back to #1 here too. #3 - Take some time out. I take vacations. I think of webmaster gatherings as vacations because I am not looking at code when I am conversing with another webmaster over a beer. I take my family to the mountains or the beach. If I am stuck on something I take a walk or watch whatever TIVO captured for me and think about something else for a while. #4 - Don't jack off all day.... that includes reading GFY. I'd have to say (and I think many program owners will agree), GFY is worse for a mainstreamer coming into porn than the porn itself. Say someone hires an admin from the mainstream circuit. Now that person has a shitload of porn at their finger tips... But others are around so they probably aren't gonna jack off at work. I say probably... But you can surf GFY all day with a lot less heat than you would get for jacking off at the office. Either way.. limit yourself to learning threads... When someone puts out a new website, make a blog entry on it immediately. #5 - Don't be affraid to lose money on something... I have spent about $10K in projects last year that didn't make the money back and often didn't make any money at all. But the others did... They did plenty. To put it into perspective, my first TGP went no where. I spent $100 on it and it took a year to make that back from the thing. But I eventually spent $400 on another one that paid that back by months end and was decently profitable for the rest of the year... That started 3 years ago. I've spent money on adwords and other advertising that went no where. But along that road I learned what did make money and then was able to duplicate the successes and ultimately turn my adwords account into only money making ads. I had to lose a few hundred though. Not bad because I know people who have spent 5K and never learned anything except that they don't know adwords and never will. #6 - Pay to play... When I tried to do everything for free I made about $1000 a month tops... When I started paying for shit like a dedicated server that didn't go down and cost me productivety I started making $3000 a month. When I ditched free scripts and stopped spending 2 weeks to learn something I could have paid a programmer to do in 2 hours, I started making $8K a month... lesson here? spend money! |

Ok im going to go back and read all your older posts because im doing something very wrong. Ive been in this biz since 2001 and im living in a studio. 2002-2003 were good years for me but after that its all declined, and lately I have almost nothing left. I've been depressed about it for the past 8 months and its getting worse.

Yes.... and I actually thought about it for a good length of time and the owner wants me to buy it.
But buying it would be insane since the market sucks for buying a house. I could have bought a house in 2004 at those rates and those prices (early 2004) and right now I'd be counting my "equity" money... Would be doing upgrades galore and shit. But this house also doesn't have a big backyard. Good for me as a renter because it is less lawn to care for, less plants, etc.. etc... When I buy I want a big yard... I want my grand kids to enjoy grandpa's house and the football/baseball games on the yard and all that jazz. |

I think most people get to into doing the exact same thing for a long time period. Sure you can churn out free sites for a year but eventually you will get burned out. Sure you can post galleries but you will get burned out. I have done many things. I successfully ran TGPs/MGPs. I have successfully grown and profited from adult blogs. I have successfully sold items through posts on forums (signup for Amazon account, find interesting items, go to just about ANY forum and post those items that match the forums topics. Note: You should have a decent post count first. You should make a few personalities that appear on those forums from time to time like you do here at GFY. "Dudes, you have to see this [item], it is insane. I just got a few for the office and we are [blah blah]." With your Amazon linking code to the item. Do that enough and especially around Xmas time = $8K - $12K a month EASY!). I have submitted both galleries and free sites and made money doing it. I posted galleries to newsgroups back when it wasn't so frowned upon. I did some blackhat and I did it in a few different ways. I have done whitehat and grayhat. But above all I tried new things. Once I got something going pretty darn good and making a few grand a month I moved on to other things and often came back to things and moved around a lot on what I was doing. This made it so I didn't get bored. Ohh... I did Adwords and still do some. I check up on those about once every 2 weeks. See if I have competition yet and if I do, see if I still want to compete. Find another sponsor no one is doing on them and do them too. Then post to blogs for a day or two... Then move on... make a network of free sites, link to them from blogs... move around... move around.... Above all, I rarely ask for advice. I always make it a point to learn how someone does what they do without asking them or bothering them. Because if I have to ask them, what am I going to do when they say no or that I am taking up to much of their time? Then I will have to figure shit out on my own so why not just start so that if I fall of the bike I can just get right back on it again and continue riding? There are so many simple tools to figure out how someone is doing what they are doing that there really is no excuse to bother someone. Yahoo site explorer. Domaintools.com... So many ways to find out what you need to know. |
