When I was in college, I worked at a concert club in Cleveland as a bar back and security guard. I was in charge of getting drinks for the band one night.

It happened to be the Village People.

Their door was locked and the Police man in the group was crying because 2 of the band members were having sex in the dressing room. I think it was the Indian and maybe the contruction worker? Not sure. Anyway, the Cowboy kept placing his drink orders with me, but I ain't no waiter, I just bring back a gang load of drinks and I'm done, they help themselves. But the Cowboy wanted a fruity drink with cherries and juices. I was nice enough to bring it to him, then he asked me to take him to his hotel after the show.

I ain't that nice!

In college I participated in a Sales and Marketing internship with the Phoenix Coyotes, and being in Phoenix/Scottsdale, there was always a high possibility of running into a celeb. This is my experience: actors and comedians could really give a fuck about you; any basketball player who isnt't a mega-star could give a fuck about you but Charles Barkley, Reggie Miller and Michael Jordan are down right interested in the fans who AREN'T affraid to approach them in public; Spring Training players other than mega-stars suck but Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa are approachable; NHL players are the best all around but that could have been since I was part of the team. Roenick, Tkchuck, Isbister, Khabibulin, Numenen and the whole Coyote team were always willing to have chat but they would not let you buy them anything, in fact it wasn't uncommon to walk into a bar after a game and have them buy a round for everyone in the bar. Visiting players alike, and there are many, are standup celebs!

No drinks, but I have met and spoken with several celebs -- Sheryl Crow, Bobby Hull, I once shook hands with Prince Andrew.

The one time I sent someone famous a drink was when Kim Mitchell walked into a local nightclub. He's well-known in Canada, having been with the band Max Webster for a number of years and then having a super successful solo career.... he was swarmed with fans and attention and I remember thinking "damn, that guy probably needs a drink" since he was signing autographs and no one was getting the guy a beverage. I sent him over a vodka-tonic, and he later came over and thanked me.

I had insider information that that was his favorite drink.

But I think sometimes celebrity types may be wary of people making overtures with drinks etc.... there are a lot of fucking idiots and creeps out there, and it's probably hard to tell why someone is sending you a drink, if they have some motive or if they are just being friendly. And like someone else said, sometimes they just want to be left alone and treated like anyone else at that moment or event.
