working abroad in Costa Rica
You've certainly seen some ad to work in Costa Rica. Here's the reality about those jobs abroad the guys will not tell you during the interview:
- You will enter the country on a tourist visa, which means you will be illegal workers. - You will be illegal workers, which means you'll have to leave the country during 72 hours every 90 days at your own expense. - You will be illegal workers, which means you will not be covered by the local social security system, nor any unemployment benefit or pension. Everything will be at your own expense too. - You will have no paper whatsoever to prove your working engagement with that company in that country. - You will be subject to the working law of Costa Rica if it pleases your employer. - You'll have the right to work after hours or during the weekend with no compensation. - You will be housed in an apartment rent by the company, which sounds good first, but it also means anytime they want you to leave for any reason, you'll just have the right to remain silent. Apart from that, the country is nice and the weather awesome. So just think a bit before doing the big jump, there are drawbacks too. |
