Please support baby "Metallica"

STOCKHOLM, Sweden - Metallica may be a cool name for a heavy metal band, but a Swedish couple is struggling to convince officials it is also suitable for a baby girl.

Michael and Karolina Tomaro are locked in a court battle with Swedish authorities, which rejected their application to name their six-month-old child after the legendary rock band.

"It suits her," Karolina Tomaro, 27, said Tuesday of the name. "She's decisive and she knows what she wants."

Although little Metallica has already been baptized, the Swedish National Tax Board refused to register the name, saying it was associated with both the rock group and the word "metal."

Tomaro said the official handling the case also called the name "ugly."

The couple was backed by the County Administrative Court in Goteborg, which ruled on March 13 that there was no reason to block the name. It also noted that there already is a woman in Sweden with Metallica as a middle name.

The tax agency appealed to a higher court, frustrating the family's foreign travel plans.

"We've had to cancel trips and can't get anywhere because we can't get her a passport without an approved name," Tomaro said.

Why are parents so stupid these days? It's a CHILD not a dog. Inga is a nice swedish name. I'm 1/4 swede by the way so my opinion counts.

I didn't think any government could stop you from naming your kid whatever you wish to. Pretty stupid name to give to a kid, but it should be their perogative...

In America probably no right. In Sweden where universal health care paid for the mothers medical expenses from conception to birth not to mention the parents aren't out a dime in medical care the entire time they raise the child until adulthood. Maybe the do get a say.

Without the name Metallica, how will the little baby girl ever adjust to living with her sister "Megadeath" and her older brothers "Judas Priest" and "Motley Crue"?

YOU HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD WITH THIS!!!

That's what happens when you let the government support the people. They slowly move into you personal life. It's sneaky but that is how they do it. Hope people keep this in mind while voting for Hillary.

How about Deep Purple instead of Styx? It was good to see you at the forum Steve. Jane said to tell you hi and she sends her love.

i don't think that there's already a law limiting parents with regards to the name of their children..i mean, that's one of the privilege of being a parent right...

Usually there is no problem naming your children after your own wish but in some rare cases they object to it. Dont see why they would do it in this case though. Some guys want to baptise their children to Satan and stuff, they usually dont get that passed etc

Id rather pay every penny for every single medical treatment than be forced to name my child as someone else likes.

They have the right to block names that are not in the best interest of the children, as well as trademarks and reserved names. Words like pussy or something similar gets instantly blocked. Sometimes they block names that might be ok, then the parent can appeal it to the court system, any costs for the appeals is probably taken care of by the goverment no matter if they win or loose. I think it's a pretty fair system, there are so many sick people who would name their children crazy stuff if they could.

I asked my kids "Luke" and "Leia", cuz I am their father.
They said the parents should try to be more original. Copying names from music and movies is just stupid.

Used to be in France you could only give babies biblical names, they changed it now, Some kid ended up with the name Clitoris.

In Spain they wouldn't let me give my kid 3 names, bastards.
The fucking Prince has got three names.

In England kids get named after complete football teams.

Errrr - dont people pay tax over there which already pays for the fucking so called "free health care".

A bit like in the UK - where you can pay tax for the NHS - and if you are rich enough - you also get to have the pleasure to PAY AGAIN for private.

WTF???

Last time I checked Sweden is still a democracy so if they don't like it they can make a case to their government representative to change it. SIMPLE.
