Anyone have trouble with ICQ not sending or receiving messages ? Maybe if you're offline, or someone isn't in your contact list, or some other reason ? I know I'm not the only one that misses messages that have gotten sent to me, and then other times I send messages that don't get received. Whats the deal ? Is there an incompability issue with different versions of ICQ, or maybe the Trillian users, or other ?

Latley ICQ has been a pain in the ass.
Half the time when I log in I get pelted with messages that people sent at some point (that I've already read), and then I keep getting the same messages when I log in later. Soime of them I've gotten 10 times already.
Also, I've noticed lately while talking with people that they'll say "you there?" even though I've been sending messages. Turns out they didn't get any of them, and there's to me get skipped too.
Dayum. Irritating.

I find that if the person isn't in my contact list, I maybe receive messages 50% of the time. I never receive messages with a url in them unless it's from someone in my contact list. I don't have any filtering in ICQ setup except to not receive mass messages sent by people not in my contact list.Comment

The only times I have had problems with ICQ is when the person I am trying to talk to is using a mac version of ICQ. Sometime messages don't go either way with those people.

If I'm not mistaken, the reason you wouldn't receive SOME of the messages from people NOT in your list is they are sending you a url.
I believe this is spam prevention, if you will, put in place by ICQ specifically for that purpose.
I do notice however, if I'm adding someone to my list, half the time the "server fails" so I half to reboot ICQ. Once I do that, the "server" works just fine.Comment

I've been having trouble too..SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, then you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60.Comment

if you receieve a msg from someone not in your list and if there is a url in it, it most likely not gonna get to you because of all the spam protections they got... and trillian may not be uploading your list to icq database, so it could be a problem

I think it does help when the person you're messaging is in your contact list. But even so I'm still seeing a lot of messages not go through. What I find especially frustrating is that often the same message won't go through. I can re-send the same message two or three times, and it never goes through, yet other messages sent around them get through. And they don't contain URL's, either.
I can only assume it's an issue with different versions of ICQ as it seems to come up from time to time.

I had this problem ages ago when I was running 99b
I found an independant ICQ forum site where there were tonnes of posts about this bug.
Apparently it was a deliberate attempt by ICQ to force users of the older versions to upgrade to the newer versions that contain the ads.
It was said that the ICQ servers had been modified to drop a percentage of the messages sent by older versions of the program, thus pushing those people to upgrade.
I upgraded to the latest version and used the adbusters crack and havent looked back, the new versions are much better when you disable all the extra crap that you get by default.Comment
