commus on the other hand regularly crashes my (other) server and mucks up the mysql database constantly, the minute I get round to it I'm replacing it with another copy of ST

Since it seems the problem is your server why not log into your shell account and do a tracert and ping and see what happens?

Yes, we adviced him to do that..waiting for his response..If this is the case it should be easy to solve..
