A former roommate of a 21-year-old Fond du Lac man convicted in a sex videotape ring was sentenced to nine years in prison Friday for having sex with a 15-year-old girl while his friend captured the act on film.
Justin E. Smet, 116 N. Berger Parkway, Apt. H8, was also sentenced to 15 years extended supervision. Smet was found guilty of second-degree sexual assault of a child in February 2007 for having sex with the teenage girl. Two other charges of repeated first-degree sexual assault of a child and sex with a child 16 or older were dismissed and read into the court record. A sentencing hearing for Smet?s former roommate, Christopher Schmude, was postponed Friday morning pending completion of a psychosexual analysis. Schmude is convicted of videotaping several Fond du Lac juveniles performing sex acts on adult males and each other. Smet was one of the adult males. The girl Smet was videotaped having sex with appeared in court to speak on Smet?s behalf and said the sex was consensual. ?I had a relationship with Mr. Smet,? she said. ?I still love him like a brother.? She also appeared during Schmude?s hearing but did not speak on his behalf. |
