Newbie Help...
This is a repost of something I wrote with a thread title that gets no views...
http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showthread.php?p=9513190 Quote:
What you need to do first is understand how to gain traffic. Without traffic your kickass websites can't sell anything. Next you need to read one of my past threads about TGP's... perahps searching for 'free hits tgp trades' or something here at GFY... I have numberous posts where I spell out how to go from ZERO to 10K in 3 or 4 days without buying a shitload of feeder traffic. Have you ever tried blogging? I'd suggest you spend the next two weeks making 5 very different websites. A blog, a TGP, an MGP, a link dump and a link list. Then see which ones of those you seem to be good at and which you are not. Then ditch (or sell ???) the two worst and focus on the three best. Turn one of them into a money maker and then think about making 5 more things you didn't previously have experience in.... Everyone likes to talk about the dreaded plateau. How do I get over that fucking hill? Well, here is a big hint, and a quote- If you want something to change in your life, you have to make some changes. So stop doing what you are sucking at and start doing what you are good at. When I did TGP's for my income I was beginner-intermediate. But I did make some income. About $2800 a month. I realized at that point that I wasn't good at making and running TGP's... But hey, atleast I made money while learning the mistake. So what did I learn? #1 - You cannot do it alone most of the time. These TGP's with 1 million hits have admins, designers, etc... Account managers... One person does NOT run a TGP by themself. The TGP owner might be making $400K to $600K but on top of that, the TGP generated MILLIONS! Who got paid that money? The submitter/partners did. But without those guys the owner couldn't have fresh galleries and grow to be 1 million hits a day. #2 - You probably won't make a million dollars with your first idea. Many of the people here are not making that much money on their first domain. It takes some failures to find the golden ideas. Keep looking and realize that failure is the foundation of success. Rick Latona is a good example. He has followed in the footsteps of countless others and has created more unbeaten paths than most others. But he has.... shit... I dunno... 5 things he is really good at and another 10 that make more than you do and another 20 that still do and then another 50 that he had to cut loose because they didn't turn into the next big thing. He has a shitload of employees. So we are going back to #1 here too. #3 - Take some time out. I take vacations. I think of webmaster gatherings as vacations because I am not looking at code when I am conversing with another webmaster over a beer. I take my family to the mountains or the beach. If I am stuck on something I take a walk or watch whatever TIVO captured for me and think about something else for a while. #4 - Don't jack off all day.... that includes reading GFY. I'd have to say (and I think many program owners will agree), GFY is worse for a mainstreamer coming into porn than the porn itself. Say someone hires an admin from the mainstream circuit. Now that person has a shitload of porn at their finger tips... But others are around so they probably aren't gonna jack off at work. I say probably... But you can surf GFY all day with a lot less heat than you would get for jacking off at the office. Either way.. limit yourself to learning threads... When someone puts out a new website, make a blog entry on it immediately. #5 - Don't be affraid to lose money on something... I have spent about $10K in projects last year that didn't make the money back and often didn't make any money at all. But the others did... They did plenty. To put it into perspective, my first TGP went no where. I spent $100 on it and it took a year to make that back from the thing. But I eventually spent $400 on another one that paid that back by months end and was decently profitable for the rest of the year... That started 3 years ago. I've spent money on adwords and other advertising that went no where. But along that road I learned what did make money and then was able to duplicate the successes and ultimately turn my adwords account into only money making ads. I had to lose a few hundred though. Not bad because I know people who have spent 5K and never learned anything except that they don't know adwords and never will. #6 - Pay to play... When I tried to do everything for free I made about $1000 a month tops... When I started paying for shit like a dedicated server that didn't go down and cost me productivety I started making $3000 a month. When I ditched free scripts and stopped spending 2 weeks to learn something I could have paid a programmer to do in 2 hours, I started making $8K a month... lesson here? spend money! |

from what im gathering, it compounds on itself.
Code:
while($porny){
if($hits = = 0){
buyTraffic();
}
doTradesOut();
$hits=($hits+getTradesIn());
getBetterTrades();
}

2HP made some excellent posts on traffic. I suggest you search GFY for 2hp and "traffic".
