What makes you think we are stretched thin? Because that's what the news says? We are far from stretched thin, we just havent used our exsisting manpower efficiently. We have plenty of reserver/national guard units that have yet to see combat, over 60% of the active duty marine corps has yet to see a tour in iraq. So I have to ask, what makes YOU think we are stretched thin. Because the media says we are? This is not even getting into other branches of the military that could very easily be utilized for ground combat. The navy, airforce, etc. all have hundreds of thousands of enlisted, capable troops that could go through 3-6 months of training and be just as ready as a marine/soldier.
We have mismanaged our exsisting troops in iraq, we have not run an efficient deployment schedule, that is true, but we are far from stretched thin. We have no need for a draft anytime soon, and if things were to heat up with iran we would have an actual real coalition. What we have in iraq is not a real coalition, it's pretty much strictly us in combat roles, and even then it's a very small percentage that are from other countries, most of which are from the uk. If we went into Iran we would have plenty of support. Contrary to popular belief the rest of the world still needs us. People have short term memories when it comes to politics, otherwise most of europe would still be kissing our ass for WW2.
