mySql DB help please. i broke my website.

i was adding products to my massive store database (db2) using a web interface. nothing unusual in that action. in the middle of adding a product the interface times out. on refresh i get an error that says "cannot connect to DB." i check my front end which uses a different DB (db1) and that returns a database error as well. when attempting to login to my hosting companies control panel (h-sphere) the login times out. so i figured the host is having problems.

well, the next day my websites still return the same error. however, i am able to log into the control panel.
currently:
phpmyadmin times out when connecting to db2 but not to db1
website 2 and 1 that connect to db2 and 1 return DB errors, respectively. my test subdomain that connects to db1 returns a DB error as well.
the control panels "Manage MySQL Databases" times out when connecting to db2 but not the others. somewhere (i forget) it reports that db2 size is 0. i assume it returns that value because it cannot connect to it. i was able to increase the size limit for this db but that did not solve the problem.
the hosts technical support sent the issue to their "senior techs."
again, i am able to browse around DB1 but the site that connect to DB1 gives a DB error. DB2 times out.

any ideas on how to help?

Do you know if MySQL is installed on the same server your websites are served from? Or in other words, if you're trying to connect to the DBs, do you look for them on "localhost" or on any other server?

I'm asking cause maybe your host is using a seperate server for all their MySQL stuff, then it could be that your only problem is that this MySQL-Server is somehow fucked up. I.e. simply down, or under heavy load, etc.

my host fixed the problem, whatever it was. this resulted in an older copy of the database being restored which is a loss of about 4 hours of work for me.
