Photographers in here..

I have been using a Canon i950s (rather inexpensive printer) for printing contact sheets and proof copies for the past 3 years etc. Last night i was midst of printing some contacts sheets for a couple magazine and the printer started acting really weired, colors were way off and in the end it just kinda froze on me, sending a trouble signal of 7 orange blinks and the one green. I researched it and it seems to be the natural way for a printer to go to heaven...

So i am looking for a new printer..any suggestions ? guess canon or epson are really the best, how aout HP ? Like to hear your suggestions and experiences, also with regards to cost of ink dye etc.

I have the canon i9900 and thankfully it has not gone to heaven yet. It seems I go through ink more than I'd like. But the quality has been very good.

My photography instructor uses an Epson and loves it; he's had no problems with it.

I am a fan of Cannon. They have great support and make an awesome product. Only time I would go toward Epson is if you were looking for a large format printer. If you want large, go with a Epson Stylus Pro 9800 Pro Edition. I am about to pick one of these up myself.

I used one at my old place.. It was alright, i'd rather go EPSON though if you are going to spend some money. Why not find a photo printing place somewhere?

high end epson is the way to go.

generic inksets on ebay are ok, and cheap.

I have a i950, I love it, mostly because the colors on it are pretty natural. The 6 ink thing can cost some money though.

My sister has all HP stuff, and I find that HP produces VERY vivid colors that make consumer level shooters feel good about their stuff. It isn't as realistic, but the images are usually VERY warm and as a result, they look good.

I have an HP Designjet 30 wide body printer. (prints 18" X 24").

I also have a HP Laserjet 1020 (b/w laser) I use it more than anything now. Cheap fast b/w documents with no ink!

Lastly my Canon 950 rests in the H/P laserjets box now. It was all right but I wasn't that happy with it on many levels.

edit: Oh and I think my first printer ever was a some sort of HP Inkjet. That fucking thing was like the energiser bunny! just kept going and going and going......

I love Epson. Never used a Canon, HP's used to have problems, but I am sure they have fixed that by now since it's been like 10 years since I've tried one. But, I have never been disappointed by an Epson. Most professional photo stores I've been inside carry Epsons.

I've got an epson 1800. The prints look fantastic but it goes through ink really fast. To replace all the cartridges it will cost about $112.
