Foreign languages - its amazing how fast you forget them

German - ive been living in Germany for 1 year when i was a kid and my mother has been a German teacher so I've been speaking German almost as good as a native speaker

now I havent used it for a few years and I'd have huge problems to write a complete sentence in German without making any errors and without having problems to find the correct words - I simply forgot everything... But at least I admit that if someone showed me a German movie now, I'd understand 99% of it.

then I learned Italian for 4 years, I was also pretty good at it but after not using it for almost 8 years if i had to go to Italy today I would ask them "what time is it" instead of saying the same in Italian. If someone showed me a movie in Italian, I'd probably undertand not more than 15% of it...

anyone else noticed how fast you forget foreign languages

or perhaps some of you don't have this problem?
    I don't use ICQ anymore.

I learnt French at school and now my French ability is pretty low!

When I moved to Bp i used to mix the two languages together, but as I picked up more Hungarian I forgot more and more French!

Now I can understand some, but speak very little!

Of the three languages I took in school I remember this:

          1) Hast du deine hausaufgaben schon gemacht?

          2) Cogito Ero Sum

          and

          3) Porque mi gustooooooo

I think I remember more Korean than anything...I spent much of my 3 years there living in the local community and not on the base...
