An 03' is probably still on it's original battery. If it is,that should be changed. I've been driving BMW's for years and have never had a problem.

By the way, we had a similar problem with a used Mercedes we bought. A few weeks after buying it, it wouldn't start. It had an electrical problem that was draining the battery... ugh. Never again.

If it has more than 100k, that's when the computers start fucking up on Bimmers no matter what shape it's in otherwise. Sadly, it's more common that you would think.

i wouldn't buy a bmw from a used car place. sometimes private deals can be ok but well, i wouldn't buy any cars from a used car dealer unless they were backed by a major car manufactor like chevys optimum used cars. too many times pieces of shit are fixed up or cars that have gotten into big accidents, etc. good luck with it.

If anything needs to be fixed you should take it to a BMW dealership to make sure it's done right and give the bill to the used car lot. What kind of warranty did they give you?

Yes, they fixed it. But still, you should not have to have your car in the shop weeks or days after buying it from a dealer. Used or not

I say you should always give them a chance to fix it. A dead battery isn't a rarity with a used car that has been standing still for a while.

And that engine light can be restted in 5 minutes at the garage.

And if you still have second thoughts on your purchase, you should bring your car to an original dealer for a checkup.

It'll cost you a little extra, but then you will have sertainty about the state it's in, and you can ask the garage you bought it from to fix the things the dealer might have ran into under warranty.

sometimes when you take out the battery the engine light will come on until the computer resets itself. My car does it.

Oldest trick in the business. Put the battery on the charger before giving the car over. Sometimes they hold, sometimes they don't.

When you buy used, always buy Pre-certified from the dealer. Even if its a bit more, at least you have piece of mind.
Good luck, I hope it works out.

All cars eventually break down. I can see why my used car salesman friend has high blood pressure and drinks all the time.

He had one person complain that their car was fucked and that sometimes the oil pressure would drop and the transmission would lock up.

Turns out she wasn't turning the key all the way forward when she started it so the engine wasn't even running, but the radio and fans would turn on so she couldn't hear that the engine wasn't on.

Everyone is always quick to jump down their throats for what usually amounts to an unforseeable circumstance or simple maintenance item.

What? Hardly. Never again will we tolerate a car we just purchased go in for mechanical repairs days after we bring it home. We bought a lemon and got taken advantage of really bad. There are laws that protect consumers from this happening. We were just too laid back and allowed it to take place the way it did and settled for a loaner car for nearly 6 weeks.

If the starter is clicking and not turning over then yes.

Sounds like a computer malfunction maybe.

Either that or your shit is really messed up (more than one problem)

If you buy used from a dealer, you should only buy certifed. The warranty on those are sometimes even better than a standard one.

I just got a low miles deville from a dealer here. Came with a 5 year, 100,000 mile full bumper to bumper warranty. Gotta love not having to pay for anything that breaks for 5 years.

My buddy had problems with the computer on his beemer not too long ago, it's probably what's wrong with yours...

Did you buy it from a dealer? or off of ebay or something?

Electrical problems are the worst on BMWs and Benzos.
I'd get my money back and look at a different car.

In the states, you can't take a car back after you sign the paper work unless there's a specific provision in the paperwork. There's no law that protects you. Canada could be different.

If it's just a battery on a 4 year old BMW with 77K miles, consider yourself lucky - and put some savings away for future repairs ;)

It was a dead battery for pete's sake. Why does everyone instantly think he has a lemon?
