Partitioning drive
I had to install a new hard drive in my pc and I also installed Vista. For some reason I forgot to partition the drive when installing it.
Is it really necessary to partition and if so should I go back and re-do it? In order to partition the drive I have to reinstall Vista all over right? And the Vista installer also has a built in partition device so it will guide me step by step so I don't need any other programs, is that correct? Also, the main benefits partitioning is so that data loads faster since the copy of Vista will be in a different partition and in case one partition is corrupted, the other ones will be saved, is that right? Yea, I don't know too much about this, I always had someone partition it for me before... |

In the not so distant past partitioning was necessary because FAT16 had a 2Gb limit, which meant drives larger than that had to be split. Partitioning under FAT32 or NTFS is probably not worth it. FWIW, I have two RAID arrays (using multiple drives to appear as one) and neither are partitioned. One is 600Gb, the other is 640Gb. If you partition and assign uses to each partition you'll inevitably end up with one partition full, and wishing you'd made it larger.
