    Huge Aussie Child Pron Bust

Wow I am ashamed to be Australian today. Blows my mind to think there are this many people involved in this shit.
Victoria child porn swoop sees 50 jailed

Victoria's biggest child pornography swoop has jailed 50 people.

A further six have committed suicide since Operation Auxin, a nationwide crackdown on internet perverts, began, News Limited reports.

The investigation identified more than 180 Australian suspects who had amassed up to 12,000 images each.

Victoria yielded the highest number of suspects, who were all men.

Thirty-six of them are yet to face court.

Among the suspects netted by Operation Auxin were a policeman, principal, childcare centre director, youth worker, a prison guard and a priest.

All were buying images off a foreign porn site in Belarus, but were otherwise unconnected.

Detective Senior Sergeant Chris O'Connor, of the sexual crimes squad, said the suicides stemming from the investigation were tragic but showed the extent to which someone's life could be ruined by being caught with child porn.

The men who had killed themselves would have agonised over their secret being exposed, he said.

"The majority were people of good social standing," Sgt O'Connor said.

"They don't think about what they'll be giving up (if caught)."

Yeah but chances are they are spot on. They access one of these sites, their ip is logged. Their isp tells the cops this username was on that ip at that time and bam its game over pedo!

Good to hear that every "internet pervert" is a consumer of child pornography.

I used to feel ashamed to be American based on the actions of GWB. But you can't let the actions of others affect how you feel if you're not involved. It's not a blow to Australians, actually it's a victory for Australians that there are people actually taking a stand against this human rights violation.

I'm not sure there's a whole lot we CAN do, unless we actively seek out child porn sites and report them to the proper authorities...and even then, who's to say we won't get busted ourselves by having these illegal images in the browser cache, or reprimanded by our ISP for looking this stuff up? I reported a child porn toplist to Google the other day to see if it could be removed from their database...it actually went from 4th place to 3rd place in the list for the search string...

It's probably simpler than that: the article said they purchased images, which probably means a CC or some other traceable form of payment was used.

The jobs "Childcare centre director" and "Principal" in relation to a CP bust really scare me.

I wonder when they're due to face court.. I keep meaning to take my camera there one day, and pretend I'm a legit photojournalist.
