Mild throbbing near heart area, doctor time?

This 20 year old heart attack thread is freakin me out.. I'm 26, and lately I've been having this weird throbbing sometimes around my heart I think, doesn't really hurt... Time to see a doctor perhaps? Maybe it's my lung or something though...

My grandpa had a lot of heart problems. A big heart attck was one of them.

My grandma told me it's common for men to get a feeling of pressure in their chest, where people *think* their heart is, and most of the time it's just gas buildup.

Who knows if it's true but I believe her.

Prob best to see a doctor anyhow.

Naw that's a stroke.. If you're about to have a heart attack, you don't know shit. When you have the heart attack, it feels like an elephant is standing on your rib cage trying to break it

if it's abnormal, sure.

I mean, your heart normally "throbs"... but if it's a new-kinda thing, why chance it, eh? If you think it's around your heart, it could be something like a constricted vein or artery, which could lead to an eventual heart attack.... or a thousand other things, I imagine... or nothing at all.

If lack of insurance is the reason you're deflecting it, check out the free clinics in your area... see what they have to say.

I had something similar and I just turned 27. It was scary and I eventually went to the ER out of caution. The first thing the doctor told me was that I was way too young to be having any kind of heart problems and it was most likely acid reflux. He did run a bunch of tests as caution and it all came back clean. He put me on some Prevacid and I've been fine.

My guess is that you may have acid reflux. If you've been eating greasy food or lying down after you eat, this could be the case. It will feel just like a heart problem and is mistaken for a heart attack all the time. You may want to pick up some Pepcid and see if that helps. But since it is your heart, if you really feel weird, there is no harm in going to your doctor to make sure. However, at 26, the odds of it being your heart are very slim.

heh funny thing is I'm canadian, just don't have a car and going to the hospital would take the better part of a day. ;)

Sometimes I try to work out fairly hard see if I can "set something off" but doesn't do shit.. Doesn't get more painful or anything.. But since it's happening every day I guess it's something I should waste a day on.. sigh.

What pocketkangaroo said makes sense, too...

I mean, if you're reluctant enough to spend the day, then maybe pick up some rolaids, or Pepcid AC, or Prilosec, or any other over-the-counter acid reducer, and see if the pain goes away...

If it does, you probably found your answer... if it doesn't, spend the half-day in the hospital asap, imho.

It sounds a lot like acid reflux. It's not really a pain, just a tingling type thing in your chest. You can feel it as your heart beats. Mine did feel painful from time to time if I was in the wrong position.

Good news is that if it was your heart, you'd be dead by now. No one has a 12 hour heart attack.
