Who here has a Msc in Mathematics?

Unfortunately I don't, but I've just come to the conclusion it's the greatest science - totally abstract, totally exact, universally applicable.

It's just a shame it attracts so many socially handicapped people.

Why a masters? unless you are seriously into research or being a professor - you can satiate your curiosity with a Bsc. If there's one book anyone interested in math should read it's "What is Mathematics"

B.A. in Philosophy... totally abstract, completely ambiguous, and hardly accepted anywhere.

I like to beat the odds.

I have 2 Bsc Math's (Double Major). I now hate it with a passion after 5 years of torture at the University.

Haha, my father has studied philosophy for a few years, we always have some interesting discussions

Why get a Masters degree? Here in Europe, you won't get far with a Bachelors, it's more of a formality than an actual end point. I'm always a bit surprised about how many Americans only hold a Bsc, I mean - what comes next?

did you go to waterloo? That's where all the uber smart people went (the people who always kicked as on those high school math contests, Fermat, etc..).

The rest of us went to UofT

Some of the greatest philosophers in history were also the greatest mathematicians...

But then, I'd expect you to know that. :-)

I'm currently working on my BSc in Mathematics/Applied Science... will probably hit up a Masters at some point, and considering a minor in Philosophy.

My goal is to learn the language that the universe speaks.

Nice!! I actually got a lot out of it... I decided to go into something that I think will help my mind, and not my wallet.

Haha... I'm sure you do... when people find out I was a philosophy major at UCLA, they always try to quiz/stump me. I just laugh and take it in stride... it is what it is...

Indeed But back in those days, we had legitimate renaissance men... nowadays it is not as standard to have fields overlapping.

I did take on some classes that dealt with set and number theory... we had plenty of Math and Computer Science majors there.

I had considered that route, but I really couldn't see myself as a professor. Plus I spoke to a lot of the graduate students that was studying towards their PhD... they told me if I wasn't 100% certain it was something I wanted to pursue, that it would be a waste of my time and effort.

I will be going onto an MBA in the near future, probably one of the programs where you can go in at night and on the weekends, so it doesn't hinder working concurrently.

They say most mathematicians who are at the level of PhD have some form of autism ... I believe it.

Wow, that's spooky. I started out at UofW's Math program, and ended my degree at UofT in Psych. Go figure.

Marty Wall's Psych100 class was the best class I took at UofT by far - I venture to say it's one of the best intro Psych classes in the world.
