First of all, thanks for noticing the weight loss. Secondly, I'm not offended at all by the question and have no problem answering you.
I do have some loose skin due to the fact that I was overweight for a very long time (20+ years). However, I have been exercising quite a bit, which has helped in that area. At some point, I want to have plastic surgery to remove some extra skin, but I'm not looking for perfection. I only want improvement.[B][COLOR="RoyalBlue"]ICQ# 193-939-788Comment

Did insurance cover it? or if not how much is usually the total of the surgery? im asking because my mother has always wanted to get the bypass but lap band is safer.First of all, thanks for noticing the weight loss. My insurance company did not cover it. When I had the surgery in Sept. of 2005, my surgeon charged $12,900 for the outpatient surgery. He has since raised his outpatient price to $13,500. This covers the surgeon, a 23-hour hospital stay and the anesthesiologist. Compared to some surgeons in the country, this is a greatly reduced price. Granted, one should not consider only price when researching their options. The surgeon, hospital services, etc. should also be researched. My surgeon is one of the first 4 proctors (teaching surgeons) for Inamed, which is the company that invented the lap band. I would recommend him to ANYONE! His web address is www.whyweight.com if you wish to pass the info along to your mother.
FYI - I went in for surgery at 8am. My surgery lasted an hour and I was leaving the outpatient facility to go home at 10:30am.[B][COLOR="RoyalBlue"]ICQ# 193-939-788Comment

It sounds like it was pretty str8 forward - did you have any problems at all?
I have been thinking about it, but I dont think there is any point until I get my drinking under control.Comment

It is a very easy surgery. It's so much less invasive than gastric bypass, it's adjustable AND reversible, if medically necessary. I haven't had any problems with it. On 2 occasions I've had too much saline in my band and was too restricted requiring a partial unfill, but other than that, everything has been a breeze. It's definitely a lifestyle change so if you're not ready to do it, I suggest waiting until you are. Good luck with the drinking.
