Does money genuinely make you happy?

Well, does it?

There is a scene in the movie Blow, when Ray Liota is talking to his boy:

"Sometimes you're flush, and sometimes you're bust...when you are up, it is never as good as it seems and when you are down you never feel like you are you're gonna be up again......BUT LIFE GOES ON!!!"

Would you say you share a similar perspective concerning money?

Most peoples' biggest stress in life is paying bills, credit cards, insurance, etc. If you have enough money where these things are not a worry to you, then that relieves a huge amount of stress and worry from your life.

Less stress = more happy.

I would definitely agree, but what if you have a large disposble income, do you think that brings happiness or is money just a game at that point?

Yes. Money can make you happy.

But when you see so many fucked in the head celebs with all their millions, it makes you wonder...

money cannot buy happiness but it can payoff unhappiness.

Off the top of my head I can think of a hundred things that suck about being poor and none in regards to having money.

Yep, my thoughts as well. Once you have enough to be happy, no worries to pay any bills and live a life the way you want it, all this "disposable" income is only good for toys and the more you have, the bigger the toys...and new worries are around the corner, you can't send you children to school alone, you need cameras and guards around your house, etc.

I think "too much" is as bad as "not enough", as long as you are somewhere between these extremes, life is great !

Absolutely right. If you make money with doing something that you love, it can be the total happiness...

Unless you like to do something else that you hate, just to appreciate the things that you love to do much more...

I think it depends on the person.

You can have a young executive who's worked his ass up, thrashing everyone in their path, to be wealthy, only to end up with a divorce or two, maybe a few children, and a huge bank account, but nothing to show for it except a nice car and house.

Then you can have the young executive who's worked his up up, thrashed around, got wealthy, got older and realized money wasn't everything. Then started to give some back to the world.

Then you have the poor guy, with a few kids, working to bloody knuckles washing dishes who comes home to what he thinks is a heaven of a family with a fat wife, a couple of crying children and a Hungry Man micro meal on the table for dinner.

All perspective.

For me... for now, I just want the padding to feel safe as the wife and I think about children and keeping them safe.

*shrug*

Of course money buys happiness, at least it does for ME, because I'm a very materialistic, shallow and superficial person. Other people might care more about things like family, love, and all that stuff, but for me I really like money.

People who have millions but still are unhappy like Britney are fucken TOOLS.
Try buying clothes at Walmart and eating at McDonalds and drive a pinto and see how fucken happy you are.

Having money is power and that's the ultimate high.

The more I make the happier I become.

If you make more money it also makes you more confident, more confidence to face the world, talk to people, not so self-conscious and uncomfortable in your own skin. It makes you feel important, and other people respect you more. Fuck it, I'll be honest, other people's opinions are important to me, I care about what others think.

If you have more money you can also improve your looks, anything that you weren't born with you can buy. Hollywood stars didn't wake up looking like that, it takes a lot of money in order to look so "naturally good". The better you look, again the more confidence you have, and it makes life more easier and pleasant.

Up to a certain point money means happiness. If I had 1 billion or 10 billion I dont really think would matter much, If I make $1k per month or $10k per month does a huge difference.

I am not being sarcastic at all.

Everyone is different.

I also had a bad childhood and I think part of it had to do with the fact that we didn't have money. It sucks when you get picked on in school because you didn't have the right clothes to wear. I would never EVER want to be broke again.

Very true, 10k per month versus 1k a month makes a HUGE difference. 80 mil or 100 mil it doesn't matter....

That's one of the few honest responses I've seen.

Thanks man. You didn't throw down some premaddona bullshit like most and I can kind of see where you're coming from with that.

Thanks... And to me "more than enough money" is not even necessarily being rich. It just means having more than enough to pay all your bills, enough left over to save, and still have enough to buy whatever you want... nothing extravagant like a Ferrari or a mansion, but just about anything reasonable...

I think being poor for a long time also damages your health and makes you age more, mainly due to the constant stress and not being able to afford good health care, going to the doctors etc

I know rich people have stress too but I think the stress of being poor is more severe because it is constant, and it's very different when you have stress from having too much money versus worrying whether you can pay the rent or else go homeless...

The stress from being poor is of a different magnitude and more horrible...

The reason why I started this thread is because I struggle with money tremendously. I am 22 yrs old and I see the importance of making right decisions so ten years down the road I can cash in on my hard work. I am also a college student and I consider myself not a bad looking guy, im driven, and pretty intelligent(i am honestly really modest in person, but im trying to make a point)......you would think that would be a formula to getting women. well.....I am sadly mistaken, its not enough. I love women, and ill do just about anything to have mutliple partners, within reason. . Sometime I get depressed, because I see these other douche bags getting all the women and dont have half the qualities I possess. You know what they have and I dont....you guessed right, they they have $$$$$$. They are not going to want to date a guy a drives a piece of shit camry, lives in a dump, and barely has enough gas to pick them up, and works sitting on a platice green chair on a computer that is really "outdated"...... I guess the constant rejection from women keep me level headed and hungry to succeed.....like i said, i love women, they are great

the sad truth is that you just don't have any game dude... lack of money is just an excuse...

I thought I had no game either, but I am extremely successful back in my home city. The city I live in now are comprised of rich guys....How do you explain that?

Making money after working hard on something ... yes
Because it's an accomplishement and sometimes success.

But I honestly don't enjoy material stuff that much unless it's really usefull or for entraintement purposes... I couldn't care less about living in a 15 bedroom house.

Another thing, I dont want you to think i'm bashing rich guys or stereotyping, because that would be wrong. . I dont know there path's to success. For all i know they stuggled just like im stuggling now......I am not being impartial towards the wealthy is what i'm trying to say. I am not jelous either, but it sucks that society is based around class and financial status. I would hope that I wouldnt get bashed if someday I became wealthy.

Oh please you dont need money to get girls. FYI, my I'm female and my bf doesn't even HAVE ANY car let alone a Camry. He just borrowed my Mercedes to go run some errands. I make enough for both of us so I guess I don't care too much.

I don't need a man with money, I make my own. I make more than the average guy in this country anyways.

I don't go for guys with $$$ because it's my theory that guys with more money are MORE likely to cheat, and usually are able to attract more females. I like guys with LESS money because I think they are more LIKELY to be faithful. Men with money have too much entitlement and feel like they deserve tons of women for their success.
