Why I LIKE the .xxx

Because to be quite frank it will give me an opportunity to get some great domains for SEO purposes.

I'll probably invest a SHITLOAD of cash into more domains with the kind of words in them which I missed out on with .coms and .net etc.

So - I dont want to make enemies but to be honest I do see some potential with this - there will always be some guy bigger than me making millions of these .xxx doms - but WTF - thats been the case with .com, .net and dot the fuck whatever else out there!!

I hope they become available to me soon - VERY SOON.

Cheers

are you really that stupid? why would you get the .xxx over the owners of the .com? even if you could all the good names will be auctioned off to the highest bidder any how so if you think you get a shitload at 75/piece you are wrong.

well take a look at .mobi for example. 1000's upon 1000's of 'premium' names reserved for auction, not available to the general public. heres a link to all the names that tld reserved for auction...240 pages worth

http://pc.mtld.mobi/documents/Premiu...st_16Jan07.pdf

Ahh but black crayon - and Im not being funny or anything - how many actually went for a for a shitload of cash or are still just hanging in the breeze?

Seriously - its nothing different now with .com - fuckers sitting on great names and wanting shitloads of cash for them and getting fuck all - tough shit.

May I say please - that the .xxx would be a better thing if this sort of auctioning was made illegal and the release was fair.

A simple ruling along the way making this type of thing illegal would help tremendously.

For example - if the only way to purchase domains was on an international first come first served basis AND squatting of ANY type was not allowed, then the introduction of .xxx would be a great way to expand any business on the internet - with more reach.

So (and I know im talking basic) - maybe we should not be targetting the banning of .xxx (or the non-introduction thereof) - but instead be INSISTING on certain more amicable ways of its introduction in a fairer manner?

Surely I have a point?
Cheers

they haven't begun to start auctioning off many yet but flowers.mobi went for 200k. this month they are going to auction off a bunch more including pizza.mobi, singles.mobi, directions.mobi all of which will go for xxx, xxx. this is all about money man, they are going to release the names in whatever manner makes them the most money.

obviously you don't keep up much on domain sales, lots of names go for big money, most recently some names i can remember..shemales.com - 500k, interracialsex.com 150k and a bunch more i can't recall right now.

Black crayon - I know what you are saying - flowers and others etc, however do you not agree that there should be a law against THAT - NOT a campaign to stop the introduction of the .xxx

The law should be made against the profiteering aspect of the release.

sure, i don't like it any more than you but its not going to happen. maybe in the future but not now and definitely not for .xxx because no one cares about pornographers buying domains. they already feel we should pay more than any other tld out there.

oh yeah, and using .mobi as an example again, even the names not reserved were auctioned off by some registars if more than one person pre-ordered them. name of those names went for 5-15k each.

there are two kinds of people who think xxx is a good idea. the big guys with deep pockets who feel they can buy out part of the industry and the smaller guys who feel they can finally get their share of the pie. guess which one has a better chance of actually benefiting in the end?

.xxx won't happen... Did you guys read what ICANN said the last time, I just can't see it ever being approved and on the far fetched chance that it is approved .xxx domains will be as worthless as any of the other later domains such as .biz, .info and etc... There's no one to enforce the rule that adult content must be hosted on xxx, therefore it will be business as usual...

you won't get any trademarked domains, they will have the chance to register before anyone else. also if they just let any one get the xxx version of someones .com you can bet its gonna be lawsuit city for a lot of people.

there are a lot of people who believe .mobi will be worthless in some time and others who think very much the opposite. you can find some .biz and info went for big money in the beginning too but now are almost worthless. all depends on how the tld takes off or not.

This is a hilarious troll.

Every speculator (privately funded or vc backed) will be getting multiple registry credentials and buying up every single intelligible name there is before you and your big pimp "SHITLOAD of cash" can get a name by pre-ordering it at a public registrar.

Solid, desirable generic names will be reserved and held indefinately - probablly for years. Once regulation hits they will be sold off when no one has a choice.

If you think desirable adult .COM's are out of your price range right now multiply the current prices by at least 10 times and thats what your .XXX will cost - if its even for sale.

If that law was passed, then there'd definitely not be a .xxx scenario because that's what it's all about in itself..
Do you honestly think Lawley and his band of silent backers are wanting this because they are oh so concerned about children?

It's all about profit..

For me, the core issue with .XXX is that it may lead to the ghettoization of online porn. I'm not saying there is a 1% chance or a 10% chance, whether it will happen in 5 years or in 20 years, only that it would be ludicrous to ignore the possibility. As such, I really do not have a choice except to buy the .XXX versions of (at least) my key domains.

It's dangerous to assume I will even be able to do so. So okay, legal action might fix that, but at what cost? Even if I meet no such obstacles, at best I shall be paying around $75 per domain per year (based on a wholesale price of $60). And for what?

The money is not the issue for me, although for those with many domains, some serious $$$ will be involved. The point is that the only difference pre-XXX and post-XXX is that I am slightly poorer and someone who is offering me absolutely nothing in return, has some of my money. To all practical intents and purposes, that is no different than a tax. Except that if the US government - for example - threatened an internet tax, thousands would be angry about it, whereas with XXX, between lethargy and short-sighted greed, the number willing to spend the time to write a single email has been pitifully small.

There are also two wider and longer-term concerns. The first is that while on day one I may be able to buy my domains and (since I don't use either dubious content or business methods) run them as normal, who is to say for how long that will be true? ICANN is considering giving a monopoly to someone who has the declared intent of imposing certain standards. Monopolies are anti-competitive by definition, but putting aside that debate, I'm still forced to take on trust that the fees and conditions will remain no more unpalatable than they are now. That seems naive, given that ICM have cynically manipulated the process thus far and it would be equally naive to imagine that if getting this issue dismissed has been tough, it will be easier to influence ICM's conduct in future if they get their way now.

My final concern is even more abstract but concerns me most of all. It is that every time a vulture comes along to prey on this industry, the vast majority sit back and do nothing. A sizeable minority are willing to help the vulture. It takes time and effort to neutralize or minimize the impact of such activities, so once again, money is going out of my pocket without producing any benefit for me.

Our unwillingness to protect our earnings from thieves is bad enough of itself. But far worse is the message we keep sending that here is an industry which will not defend itself and is therefore a perfect target.

What kind of a dumbfuck newbie are you?

If .XXX happens I bet you ANYTHING search engines will EXCLUDE all .xxx results unless you click something to unfilter results. (similar to google images 'safe search' is on by default).

You need to go away and never come back.

I dont think an ISP that blocks porn would last very long do you?

Would you block it if you were an ISP?

In anycase - anyone who signed up to an ISP that blocked porn, would probably NEVER purchase porn - and therefore you'd probably save on bandwidth from shit traffic.

Again - any surfer not wanting to see porn wouldnt fuckin buy a membership anyway.

Any surfer who noticed his or her porn being filtered by an engine would unfilter the results. And its surfers like that who you want.

Take it easy - its not like im the fuckin enemy - im only trying to seek out new perspectives incase it DOES happen.
