I guess the day of reckoning is all about "naming and shaming them". Should be nice enough.

Cheers

Fuck this busting out a calculator to find out my real ratios -- now I?ll know! No matter how I program tries to wash them in 2nd, 3rd, ?qualified? or whatever the fuck they call them?

I?ll know.

I stopped publishing my stats for a while because I believed some sponsors were showing better ratios than they deserved, while other decent sponsors might be getting thrown under the bus.

This is all about to change. I will be collecting the data for the next 30 days and will publish no-holds-barred results at the beginning of next month.

Watch out people.

good luck with that! I wish NATS would let affiliates choose what kind of clicks to show.

Nubiles 03-01-2007 01:58 PM

Great, have you checked out any ccbill tracking? It all uses the same system of course, but I would be willing to bet its pretty accurate.

gimo33 03-01-2007 01:59 PM

bookmarked...

pornguy 03-01-2007 02:06 PM

cant wait to see those.

More Booze 03-01-2007 02:08 PM

way to go jay! it will be very interesting to see the result.

donkevlar 03-01-2007 02:35 PM

You shouldn't have announced it... I bet affiliate programs are all adjusting their "xxxjay" accounts to "don't shave".

Yeah I agree. Bad idea with the grand "announce".

RogerV 03-01-2007 03:25 PM

Looking forward to it :)

Any NATS program should match up ... when I was with EGC I had a sponsor who tracked outgoing clicks and we were pretty much dead on.

We'd always have to explain our clicks to people because everyone got so reliant on first, second page uniques, etc and NATS counts true clicks.

Should be interesting to see your results Jay.

Nah...there are NATS programs that show the "qualified hits". The NATS ones that use that are actually the toughest ones to tell.

BradM 03-01-2007 08:31 PM

Jay, just ensure you are filtering out spider requests etc. Those usually don't show in sponsor stats but with a raw redirect on your site it will show.

BluMedia 03-01-2007 09:06 PM

Sounds great Jay I would look forward to seeing your results. :thumbsup

I'll third the motion due to near-infinite scamming sponsors :disgust but then again, xxxjay has always seemed like a bright guy...maybe he's looking forward to a nice bump in conversions :1orglaugh

Cyber Fucker 03-03-2007 01:00 PM

Why dont you expose whose cookies last for how long?
Some companies cookies last 1 day!!!!??????
Ive dont test with some of the "Majors" and the cookie only sticks if you have their exit console link....

Who's fooling who??? Speak on it!!!

Some cookies last 3 days--- come on now- we all know the surfer doesnt purchase on his initial visit all the time.... EXPOSE THEM!!!!!

THEY NEED US- LETS PUT SOME MAJOR COMPANIES OUT OF BUSINNES!!!

FUNNY SHIT- The only stuff that converts like its supposed to is CCBILL....

Hmm this may be a problem--- someone needs to make an anonymous site- where the user uploads anonymous info on the affiliates...

cause Everyones scared- the savvy webmasters are getting what they deserve- because they know somebody!

I have tracked all my banner clicks for the last 2 years. I can tell you without a doubt, some of the biggest, best known programs couldn't count clicks if their lives depended on it. Their 1 in 200 ratio is in fact close to 1 in 4000 on clicks... but since they only appear to count join page uniques reset once monthly, their numbers look great.

I don't promote them anymore.

Even reported clicks now about well over 1 in 1000 pretty much across the board. Jay, I think you are going to be rather disgusted when you find out what the real conversion rates are.

I completely agree, although for me the important figure is $ per impression.

Think about it. If every single link on a site simply said "click this", then the sponsor's tour would be the only thing - over time - impacting on sales and conversion ratios would matter more. But even if every click to every sponsor were created equal and they agreed on a single stats format, they still have different payout rates. The only constants which really make sponsor-sponsor comparison legitimate are exposure and income.

Even if you can figure out how a sponsor is recording your clicks, conversion ratios are utterly meaningless because they depend not only on the sponsor's tour(s) and honesty, but also on your links. The closer you get to a blind link, the more clicks you are likely to generate, but the worse your conversion ratio will be.

Unfortunately it isn't as simple as counting impressions. A sponsor promoted in a prime position should do much better than one with a secondary promo. Promo size and type matters too. So for comparisons to make sense, you either factor in reasonable adjustments, or else group different sponsors/tracking codes together, according to the value and type of exposure you give them.

BradShaw 03-03-2007 02:15 PM

Ratios have never mattered. Bottom line $ always has.

Only a few days in and things have gotten interesting.

vvq 03-04-2007 12:28 AM

There could be a lot of reasons for stat discrepancies. For example some NATS programs don't count hits from countries they can't process.
