I had problems with IE 7 too, besides the crappy changes of features in it. I went back to IE 6, which I like. I also had problems with Norton Security 2007 and went back with Norton 2006. It seems some newer versions of programs and browsers just don't work as well as previous releases.

I won't bother with Vista any time soon.

I have Vista Premium and I love it :) I haven't had a single problem with it yet. All of my programs and hardware work just fine, I haven't had a single freeze yet. I guess the people that have problems either have older systems or just bad luck.

The thing about Vista is that it's the future, you can't stay on XP forever ;)

My system is brand new, and even stamped Vista ready.... in reality, not so much. :disgust My acdsee is having major issues, Avid, and about 10 other programs that I used to use on a daily basis.:Oh crap

The thing is that everyone said the same thing about XP, they weren't upgrading and they were all paranoid about getting it, but look now, everyone is boasting about how great XP is.

Has anyone tried to set up Vista and XP in a dual boot config? Is this at all possible??

DaddyHalbucks 03-02-2007 12:31 PM

There is a big difference between issues with software not being compatible and hardcore issues.

If your software that you use for business isn't compatible with Vista, you should never consider upgrading. However, you may want to consider what the future holds for you as if they never move to be vista compliant, you could end up running basically orphanware.

I suspect that your "vista ready" tag is for the hardware, and not for third party software. Nobody has a magic program that can make all the slow ass software companies get with the program.

osx... solid like a rock and then if you really have to suffer with some windows apps, just get parallels for 40 bucks and run xp in coherence mode

cool demo video of parallels in coherence mode here:

I didn't say that and nobody I knew said that about XP. XP was a *vast* improvement over 98/98SE/ME and brought so much to the table. It was the first really stable Windows OS (other than 2k) and was directly pointed at consumer use rather than strictly business as 2k was. In contrast, Vista adds almost nothing at all to the table... other than a fancy GUI. If I had wanted a pretty OS I'd be using OSX.

True, but the issues I am having is with the integrated hardware as well. PCI flash drivers, the built in cam, my video card. Got a few of them working with no help from the support sites.
I have no doubt that Vista is the future and it will be a great OS. But it needs more work and time. I do have another machine though. So I knew the risk when I upgraded.

RawAlex 03-02-2007 01:08 PM

Lance, I would say that if you machine was labeled at time of sale as "vista ready" and you are having these issues, then you need to get back to whoever sold it to you and ask them to fix it. Quite simply, they either mislead you or you are not getting the right info from somewhere.
