Ebay Tips

I'm dedicating some of my time to help my dad integrate ebay into one of the family businesses.

I wonder if any of you guys with experience could share any pointers (even the most basic) in this thread.

Here are a few tips of my own (as yet untested, however, since I'm new to ebay from a business pov):

- Work to maintain good feedback (quick responses, quick delivery, keeping promises, nice packaging)

- High quality photos and well-designed sales pages

- Low prices

- Offer multiple payment methods

- Invest in a shop (the intermediate one in the UK is 30 quid or about 60 bucks a month)

- Redirect a nice domain to your ebay store

- Offer freebies where possible

The product we sell cannot be changed but for anyone wishing to get into ebay, I hear selling more unique items (such as comics) is a good route.

So anyway, the above tips are all well-known, fairly obvious.

Please feel free to add your own tips.

most auctions are bid on in the last few minutes, try some auctions and have them all end at different times to get an idea. 4-6pm on Sunday EST works best for me.

I'd rather not say on here. Probably no reason why it would be detrimental, but you never know. It's related to the home, household goods. My dad has a huge 30+ year operation in the real world. He's just looking to take things online. I recommended ebay for starters.

I've been selling on eBay for the past nine years. Here's some of my best tips.

Customers will come in looking for one particular item. But once they bid on that item, they'll look at your list and "impulse bid" on other items. So you need to find ways to encourage them to bid on your other items.

I do this by charging shipping only on the first item. For example, if I'm selling DVDs, I charge $2.50 for the shipping the first one, and no additional shipping charges for extra DVDs. And I make sure to mention that in every auction.

Also, make sure you always have stuff listed. Once the auction ends, buyers will check your list to see if there's anything else they're interested in buying before sending payment.

And ship worldwide. There are lots of international buyers. Many of my best sales have come from overseas.
