I've read the proposal and I understand the intention. It also goes without saying that attempting to cash in on such a craze is a pipe dream for most of us. We ARE, after all, in business to make money, for it's money that truly makes the world go around (and you thought it was that whole pivoting thing...ha!). However, we all know that there's always going to be someone being an asshat. Those asshats are the ones with all the power, and they're going to abuse that power because they think that their way is somehow right. So, while I would definately support .xxx in a perfect world, I have to oppose it in the world of reality simply because there are people who don't give a fuck about your rights and will violate them for their own purposes any time you give them the opportunity to do so.

I have written my letter of opposition.

I don't think there's anyone monitoring more closely .xxx than I do...

why would GoDaddy change their position? they are a registrar, they profit from it

they sent a letter supporting .xxx to ICANN and that's it

I can be wrong but Im 99% sure I am right on this

VINTON CERF & ICANN SUPPORT IRRESPONSIBLE WEBMASTERS?

* From: "Jeff Knows All" <jeffknowsall@xxxxxxxxxxx>

Dear Vinton Cerf and the ICANN Board:

What possible benefit could there be for a responsible successful adult webmaster to post their support for .xxx?

Let's consider what would happen if a responsible online adult company were to post their support for .xxx to the ICANN public comment board:

1. The FBI is guarranteed to add them to their list and move them relatively high up. Most of the successful adult webmasters have been operating quietly and successfully for many years now. Those companies have either made enough money to move Canada (where they operate with complete freedom) or moved to one of many islands putting them completely outside US jurisdiction. That leaves California as a pretty intelligent place for the Federal Bearau of Investigation to focus its efforts. Last I checked, the FBI has inspected 10 companies. Only two (2) passed without violations according to Special Agent Chuck Joyner. 80% success rate. That should make both Bush and the FRC very pleased.

2. Suffer the wrath of the famous GoFuckYourself.com board bloggers Mike Hawk and Mike South? Are those even their real names? I did some quick searches on these two characters on Google:

GOOGLE SEARCH OF MIKE SOUTH:
http://www.lukeisback.com/archives/a...tes/991126.htm

"Heather Jade claims Mike South took without a release, sold and posted without permission images sexually explicit images of her when she was underage. No charges were pressed. "The pictures were supposed to be sent to Penthouse. Because Mike South said that he had connections. And the other guy said that he was going to send them to Playboy. And that was it. That's all the pictures were supposed to be used for. So they could look at them and tell me if I was all right looking to be a Penthouse Pet or a Playboy whatever..." There were just two photographers, Mike South and another guy. They said they just wanted to take pictures because they were taking pictures of all the other girls there. And nobody else signed a model release. He was real nice... I didn't think that he'd take my pictures and blow them up all over the place. He assured me that those were for his own personal use [masturbation?], you know, for him. He has a whole portfolio of girls... And that was all he said that they were to be used for." MIKE SOUTH

GOOGLE SEARCH OF MIKE HAWKE:
http://www.fubarwebmasters.com/ambush/mikehawk.htm

"i was the DJ, and played some major parties and clubs aroud town with a fake ID at the time. With a big bag of Cocaine and some money I walked into a little radio station at the time KROQ here in Pasadena." With a big bag of Cocaine and some money I walked into a little radio station at the time KROQ here in Pasadena, to buy ad time and get a club off the ground, later the DJ that did my spots, they hired him, then he became one of there top DJ"s...Richard Blade."

How did so many online adult companies become so self-confident? Clearly, they've been partying in LA for too long. My sense is that the conservative US government powers that be are just looking for an easy victory in the battle for public oppinion. It would seem to me, that child pornography and the harvesting of children for pornographic websites is an excellent target.

3. The opportunity cost of labeling every single webpage/website, putting up proper warning pages as oppossed to SPAMMING customers and creatively driving traffic would seem to be a much better investment of capital. However, if I don't have to label yet, why bother?

4. Unfortunately, I do not own shares in .xxx, nor do I have any traffic arrangement with the company. But I can assure you, were they to offer me shares to secure my domain names, I and every adult webmaster world-wide would be pre-registering.

Assuming ICM guarrantee's that I can pre-register my current inventory of domain names, I would support .xxx.

My stage name is "Dave Cummings" and, besides my www.davecummings.com website,
I own many adult dot.com domains. Contrary to ICM's subjective claims, I see
almost ZERO Sponsored Community support for .xxx, but I do indeed see
CONSIDERABLE opposition to it. Please permanently deny .xxx ---it's NOT wanted
by the Sponsored Community, and it's not an appropriate potential legal mess
for ICANN to become trapped into.

I have a great idea...ASK YOUR PROGRAM....

Ask your program you promote ..."did you post up a letter to Icann regarding .XXX? " ...see what they say, if everyone asked each program, lol

I know of one that is posting on this board today that i have not seen any post by him, and there are many others, makes you wonder why?

My letter to ICANN! ....

Dear ICANN Board:

I am taking the time to write another letter opposing the idea of .XXX, as i said in my first letter this is a very bad idea for our industry! For many reasons, first being a father myself, the very first time this was attempted to be passed using the angle of "protection of children" this could not be further from the truth. I have to ask myself about someone that would want to sell a business plan using this type of tactic. I take this very personally having children myself. The fact is having .XXX will actually make it easier to find Adult/Porn materials for children, and what i have read and believe the long range plan would be to "block" the .XXX domains city or state by state.

I have been in the adult industry for over 7 years, own and operate a company that pays tax's in the United States of America, and attend almost 90% of the trades shows in the world, not one single person, company owner or anyone that is involved in the online adult industry has ever said they thought .XXX was a great idea, in fact every single person i have spoken to has made it very clear that its a bad idea and is not supporting the idea. So when the owners of this .XXX say they "have the support of the adult industry" just about everyone in the adult industry would very much like to know who that is? In fact if there is anyway to make that information public, that would be helpful to see just who that is, and to also see if who they are claiming to be in support still are or even know they are being part of this.

Someone issued a letter taking quotes from a candid interview of some of my life, the quotes were taken out context of course, those moments being discuss were things that happened over 25 years ago. Also the importance of the message i carry is of many that do not or will not post there opposing .XXX just for those very reasons. The person that posted also eluded to the FBI and somehow being "singled out" for voicing there opinions on this very important issue. Not sure if this was a planned move by the .XXX group or one of there "people" doing what ever they can to make our voices are not heard.

Not sure why after being voted down the first time, this is even an issue, but again this person and many others do not want or care for the idea of having a .XXX domain. Also what is very troubling for me is not having someone in charge such as Lawley who does not know a single thing about the online Adult business, and attempting to jump in both feet? That would be like you or myself walking into an operating room and attempting to do surgery with out being a doctor....the example is extreme but still makes a very valid point!

So i hope you look carefully at these supposed letters of support he has (,XXX), and really keep a very close eye on these people spending millions of dollars to create this .XXX trap on the internet...this will only create so many more problems in the very near future if this is passed.

thank you,

Hi,

I am a webmaster of an adult site and oppose .XXX

It will not serve any benefit to the Adult industry in fact quite the contrary. .XXX is a ploy to gain revenue from registrations which adult site owners will feel they have to register to protect their names.

If we want to protect children, it is far more simple to create a safe GTLD for kids such as .kids and then put kid safe sites in there rather than try and park the adult industry in a small corner of the web with .XXX , allowing the kids to see all thee other content out there that is inappropriate.

What we must realise is there is so much other content (such as rotten.com) that is inappropriate for kids and doesn't class as an "adult" site so wouldn't be quarantined by something like .XXX. I have young kids and want to see .kids in action then we can set our browsers on our kids machine to only see .kids sites and nothing more.

.xxx is not the solution - please do not allow this to proceed.

I am an adult webmaster working in the adult online business. I am also
a veteran of the USAF and a decorated E-5 Non Commissioned Officer. I
was a Police Officer for 5 years from 1988-1993. To believe that a TLD
itself will protect children and keep them safe is to be naïve and
tunnel-visioned in our perception of what .XXX is designed to do, which
is make a few people a lot of money at the expense of others. I strongly
oppose .XXX as a method for preventing children from seeing adult
materials online. The originator of this proposal is clearly motivated
by money and the adult internet rejects his principals.

The .XXX TLD will not prevent children from seeing pornography on the
Internet. The .XXX TLD will not prevent children from being preyed upon
and abused by Internet predators. I don?t see Dateline with Chris Hansen
talking about pornographic websites as a catalyst to those sick people
that they snare on their ?To Catch A Predator? show. The .XXX TLD will
not stop pornographic unsolicited emails (SPAM). What .XXX will do is
line the pockets of the proposals creator, nothing more. The proposals
creator cares not of children.

.XXX will not make it any harder for children to access adult materials.
Regardless of filtering or whatever other mechanisms we think that we
can apply to a domain extension, nothing will work. What works is
parents being responsible for their children by being aware of what they
are doing. By proposing and enacting .KIDS, software may be installed
that will only allow .KIDS domains to resolve. .COM will always have
some sort of pornographic affiliated with it. There are renegades all
over the world that really don?t care what TLDs we use. The only course
of action is to hold parents accountable and provide them a tool (.KIDS)
so they may allow only those .KIDS domains to resolve in their homes. If
ICM/IFFOR care about children, they would be spending their time trying
to get the .KIDS TLD passed. Please, help us all protect our children,
nieces, nephews, and grandchildren by working towards a .KIDS TLD. Thank
you for your consideration.

I?m not going to get longwinded on you as I am sure you have 1000?s of
these to read. .XXX is a bad idea, designed by mere financial
opportunists that recognized a potential opportunity. Lets not play
their game, but instead do something that really will protect the
countries children, and those around the world should other countries
decide to follow in the path that is created by pushing through a .KIDS
TLD.

Thank you

The clock is ticking.
If you haven't sent your mail of opposition by now - then do it! It will soon be too late.
