Do you enjoy hard liquor on the rocks?
I'm talking about whiskey, rhum, gyn, vodka etc...
Do you have to mix your drinks or do you drink them on ice? I love the taste of rhum when it's mixed, but I don't like the burning of drinking pure hard liquor. Is it a taste (practice) you have to aquire over time?

It's the fusels that burn.
As a general rule: the better the booze, the smoother it is, the less it burns. Nothing quite like 3 fingers of some good single barrel bourbon, imho.
