Teen arrested for lighting shoe

Well when some other mother fucker tries lighting his shoes full of explosives I'd be paranoid too if I was on the plane and some dude tries lighting his shoe.

he was next to his dad and burning loose material off his tennis shoes

WTF?!?!?!?! they paid for a ticket lined up all the shit involved in travelling, connecting flights etc.. and not only are they not given an apology for the stupid paranoia and the next possible seats to their destination.. but they're declined further flights on the airline!!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah but once you'd realised it was just a bored kid with his dad the issue would end there..

I guess he deserved it for being dumb enough to light his shoes. Must not be getting enough attention at home.

yeah it was stupid.. but.. he's a teenager.. they do stupid things without thinking.. nothing about attention.. probably just bored after waiting for a hour at the terminal or something... it's not like he was burning his shoe.. just absentmindedly singing the little frayed bits of cotton that stick out of worn tennis shoes..

I agree with sorting it out.. getting the police on board and everything.. you can't be too careful.. but it would have taken 30 secdons to see there weren't any explosives in his shoes and it was just a misunderstanding.. denying them their flight is bullshit.

His dad was pretty dumb too if he saw the kid and didn't say anything...but then again who knows if he was sleeping or what not.

dude what are you smokin? if somebody,no matter if its a kid or not,set a fuckin fire on an airplane that YOU were on..what would you do? laugh it off?... the lil bastard had a lighter meaning he was probably into lighting more than just his shoe

if I saw the kid doing that next to me i'd understand what he was doing.. other than telling him he will get into buttloads of trouble if they see him with a lighter and someone might smell it.. other than that I wouldn't give a hoot. I think you're too caught up on "setting a fire on an airplane".. yeah.. if someone was buring a serviette or some other flammable they should be fucking spanked.. but he was singing the little bits of stitches that fray at the side of tennis shoes (there is nothing else to burn).. read: the shoe is not on fire. It's the same as singing the hairs on the back of your hand with a lighter because you're bored..

as I said.. bring the cops on board.. that would be enough to scare the shit out of him.. do the things that have to be done with the "new awareness" of terrorism.. but he was just being a dumb kid.. the only thing im really arguing against is not letting them back on the plane or another flight.. THAT is bullshit.. slap his wrist.. give them the fine that smokers get for lighting up in the toilet or whatever.. but recognise he's just a stupid kid and be done with it.. it was probably done for public relations.. to make people feel safer about flying.."if we throw some kid off for using a lighter - jeez don't you feel safe about our security"..

I burn the little bits on my sneakers all the time so

What I CAN'T understand is that this is a 17 year old
kid with a lighter on the plane.

1. Canadian's can't legally smoke until 19, where is
this fucking kid's dad's head?

2. At Pearson, you have a double checkin for U.S. flights,
so the Canadian AND FINALLY the U.S. security teams
thought it was fine that he had a lighter in his pocket.

3. Burning bits of your shoes is now chargeable with
"Disorderly Conduct" in the U.S.A. ... WOW,
I'm ready to pack up and move there! Anybody checking
their history on how facist/socialist states start down
there???
