Can't do that man, if you cap the bandwidth then the site will be unreachable for everyone and you won't make any sales.

Also, we're not doing nearly the sales we used to do. Margins are getting tighter every month it seems, so I'm looking to change things up wherever I can to improve them.

They're all mpeg. However, I think that's a function of the MGP's requiring mpegs (or movie clips over X megabytes in size) than it is a function of what sells better.

I notice programs like nastydollars and bangbros use mpegs on their FHG's, but use WMV's for their tour trailers.
So it makes me wonder do the galleries convert better with the mpegs, or do they do that because it's what the MGP owners who list the galleries want?

Personally I never understood the whole "we won't list you if your movies are under 2MB in size" thing.
If I can encode video better than the average bear and save myself bandwidth why should I be penalized for that?
I can understand requiring something like 60 seconds of total playtime and a minimum screen size of 320x240 or something....but forcing someone to encode movies badly just to meet a size requirement is silly.

we sell about 400 clips a month with MPEG, WMV,and Real Player. About 65% of the customers buy the clips in WMV. The other 35% is split pretty even with the other two

Didn't quite get that. If your highest use ever is suppose 100mbps and you cap at 100 mbps how's that cap going to make your site unreachable? It could only make it unreachable if your average use is for instance 65 mbps and you capped it at 10 mbps. I cap my bandwith about 30 mbps over my normal use cos that's still cheaper than what i'd pay for what i actually use at 95th percentile :)

Ok I understand your point now.
But the only reason capped bandwidth is cheaper per meg than 95th percentile is because the host knows you can really only use about 70% of your capped number on a consistent basis. Anything more than that and you'll need a bigger line. So if 100mbps capped is 30% cheaper than buying 100mbps at 95th percentile, then it's really the same.

Personally I never want the line capped because you never know when you're going to get hit with more than the normal amount of traffic, and you want your sites to be up and fast so you can cash in when that happens.

If I use mpeg galleries on my MGPS I get more clicks. More clicks=better trades=mgp growth. So I'd prefer to use mpeg galleries atleast at the top of my index
We do that too. I think when a surfer hitting the gallery he's in a hurry to see what goodies we got if it's not something he likes he wants to quickly move on to the next gallery. But if he watched the clips then decided to clickthru to the tour would mean he's liked what he saw and now gonna take his time to figure if he's gonna pull his walet out so longer/better quality wmv clips on the tour not a bad idea :2 cents:
I think that kinda requirement they put in to make sure the owner doesn't have to weed thru a lot of crappy galleries to find the good ones. Kinda rule of thumb if the clips are not too short and not too compressed galleries will comtain nice quality clips (and by default they are thinking it's mpeg gallery since majority are). Lotsa Idiots out there would still submit 12 x 500 kbps even after that rule's stated trust me on that. These MGP owners are not couting on very few good clip builders like yourself to fill up their mgp indexes everyday :winkwink:

Also wmv version could create probs for many surfers who don't update their WMP. Then some old wmv formats could become incompatible to be played with WMP 11 like it's happening with HomeGrown Vids and stuff like that so MGP owners become a bit too anal cos they are afraid they could lose some bookmarks cos of that :2 cents:

No 70% at 95th percentile is more expensive than 100% capped ie. $ amount for 70 mbps at 95th is larger than $ amount 100 mbps capped. So even if I don't use 30% I still pay a cheaper rate.
If you never know when you're going to get hit with more than normal then capped may not be best for you. I know what could be my max plus I always have extra bw avail to me so more than normal isn't a prob for me and hasn't been a prob in last few years besides I can always call up my host to raise cap or simply uncap for the day in the worst case senario. Am sure if you are a good customer your host would help you out too in such rare occurences :2 cents:

wmv - mpeg no diff when it comes to sales. I've been using wmv for years. just for the simple fact less bw is used.

Now is best flv,so dont bother with this.

Majority of porn surfers are PC based. WMV will play. Then there are about 5% mac users... and if they are a mac user surfing porn the most likely have OS10 and know that WMV exist. I believe OS10 plays WMV and there's Windows Media Player for Mac available.

This doesn't seem to make too much sense. If a person is in a hurry, wmv will work better because it's a smaller file size. I think everything should be WMV and we shouldn't stay in the ghetto days of MPG.

Macs and PCs can play WMV. I feel it's about quality, file size, and delivery. WMV can be delivered to almost anybody now, quality is better, and file size can be smaller than mpg making it for a faster deliver.

It makes sense to you or not it's the fact buddy. If I'd like to see a drop in my traffic I'd run wmv galleries top of my index lol.

I'm assuming you do not really work with MGPs too much otherwise, you'd know most MGPs require a minimum file size. So wmv or mpeg you gotta meet the minimum meaning you'd use longer/maybe bigger dimension/less compressed wmv movie.. now same file size mpeg will start to play right away whereas wmv you'll have to wait til the entire file is loaded hence person in hurry not going for wmv. Also, different versions of wmv codec could create trouble for surfers not upto date with WMP versions. WMP 11 has made many older wmv movies obsolete/unplayable.. just ask HomeGrown.

I like wmv but use mpeg because some places don't accept wmv.

Funny that you say that because I have XP Media Center edition on my PC, and I can't left click an mpeg file on a webpage and get it to play. I have to right click and download the entire file before I can play it, whereas with WMV it buffers for a few seconds and then starts playing, although you can't skip around the video until it's 100% downloaded.

My understanding is that my problem is common amongst media center users, no matter which version of windows media we're using....I wonder how many surfers out there are having this problem and prefer wmv?

Ya same for me. .wmv buffers and plays, mpg is download only.

well my trade script tells me majority of my surfers may not be using XP MC :winkwink: I personally have no prob with wmv.. for tour and members area it's fine but when it comes to galleries I prefer mpegs.

WMV versus MPG has been an issue for years and will be an ongoing issue for years to come.

When it comes down to the hard specs and facts, WMV delivers the same results as MPG with a 30% less file size.

However there are a lot of die hard mpegers out there that don't want to give up the dot mpg. Almost like a cult, kinda like those MAC weirdos.
