This is the first I've even heard of "firepay"

I doubt the policy changes of one company are a good indication of what an entire country will do.

Canada has always been online gambling friendly, and I know that if people want to gamble they are going to find ways to do it, period.

why the heck a country would even consider a ban is beyond me.. imagine loosing billions of dollars in taxes from consenting adults doing what they want with their money..

you can ban all fun, but people are still going to drink, gamble, get hookers and find porn.. heck.. tax it

How would the Canadian gov't be loosing any money on taxes? Online casinos generally aren't based in Canada, and winnings aren't taxable here.

Now what I dont understand why didnt the land based casinos get into online gambling. I personally would feel more comfortable gambling with Caesars online or MGM online, then some online casino on a island out of government reach.

Me...

When you win over a specific amount in a "brick/motar" gambling facility you must fill out a taxation claim form before you get paid. Some will even deduct the tax right then and there if you chose.

Um, he was referring to adults gambling online and the effects if Canada passes an online gambling ban.

Online Gambling is alive and well.

Every Casino, Sports Book, and Poker Room I deal with is still taking US players. They are all working on other processing methods.

Online Gambling is not going away.

Whatever. I've never seen any firepay threads on this or any other wm board, they obviously aren't "big" in this business.

And my main point stands... that I don't see them being "big" enough to represent government policy in Canada.

So I'll see your "they're big" and raise you a "Pffffft!" :D

Guess you do.. had to google it:

Profits derived from bookmaking or from the operation of any
gambling establishment (carried on legally or otherwise) constitute
income from a business. In addition, an individual may be subject to
tax on income derived from gambling itself, if the gambling activities
constitute carrying on the business of gambling; see the decision of
MNR v. Morden, (1961) CTC 484, 61 DTC 1266 (Ex. Ct.). The issue of
whether or not an individual's activities are such that he or she can
be considered to be carrying on a gambling business is a question of
fact that can be determined only by an examination of all of the
circumstances and the taxpayer's entire course of conduct. Although no
one factor may be conclusive, the following criteria should be
considered in making the determination: (a) the degree of organization
that is present in the pursuit of this activity by the taxpayer,
(b) the existence of special knowledge or inside information that
enables the taxpayer to reduce the element of chance,
(c) the taxpayer's intention to gamble for pleasure as compared with
any intention to gamble for profit as a means of gaining a livelihood,
and
(d) the extent of the taxpayer's gambling activities, including the
number and frequency of bets.

That's exactly what happened. They listened to the lobby groups instead of thinking for half a second and realizing they could have made shit loads if they taxed it instead.
