over the counter sleep aid and lots of weed...alcohol and nyquil are a shitty combo.

Been suffering from it forever...

E$_manager 02-15-2007 06:57 AM

The problem with you is probably that you worked hard and had a big tension and can't relax and fall asleep. So you have to think of your time sleep more. Pay more attention to relax, like warm bath , a cup of wine (what you already did) reading a book.

I was looking at Midget Army a couple weeks back and trying to figure out how you had time to build and update it, along with regular work, shows, personal life, etc... I was thinking to myself "does this guy ever fucking sleep?"

ADL Josh 02-15-2007 07:12 AM

i would go running or workout in the afternoon..if you do that consistently and stick to a routine, your sleeping patterns should fall in place.

drjones 02-15-2007 07:17 AM

Grab some melatonin as others has suggested. Should be able to find it at any grocery or drug store.

ajrocks 02-15-2007 07:17 AM

pills are the only thing that work for me. Or getting real drunk.

Weed, wine, ambien, diphenhydramine, sex. Combine any 2 or 3 of those and you should be good to go.

JFK 02-15-2007 09:19 AM

Fitty..........Sleepless nights :(

uno 02-15-2007 09:19 AM

Oh, and 5-htp should help too. You can find it in any vitamin type shop or even walmart.

DaddyHalbucks 02-15-2007 09:20 AM

Exercise during the day, cut out caffeine totally, take calcium magnesium and fish oil at bedtime.

tranza 02-15-2007 09:21 AM

Try reading some really boring stuff...

BigB 02-15-2007 09:28 AM

Best old trick

Get up, drink water, a shot of whiskey and... close ur eyes and count the sheep :)

_andy_ 02-15-2007 10:09 AM

I have found that I sleep best when I cut out all alcohol and cigs. But as you have stated, sometimes just the anxiety of, 'man that would suck if I don't sleep tonight' is enough to make you not sleep. Just try and make it a goal to not smoke or drink for say 5 days. It allows your body to get back on its normal rythm.

But, insomnia can suck and sometimes you just need to get hammered and put yourself out of your misery.

_andy_ 02-15-2007 10:11 AM

Oh - try this: Yogi Bedtime Tea. You can get it at Whole Foods or some store like that. It's herbal, but by far the best and most effective way to assure sleep that I have ever tried. I think pills suck. The next-day haze of a Tylenol PM is almost worse than the feeling of having not slept, imo.

czarina 02-15-2007 10:13 AM

drink warm milk or a glass of hot chamomile tea, have sex, or go to bed really really late.

Fetish Gimp 02-15-2007 10:15 AM

Three words: tiger penis tea.

Dave,

It is strange. It comes in waves. Sometimes I go months where I sleep a full 8 hours a night. Then suddenly comes a streak of insomnia.

It is odd. I get super creative while it goes on. I think of great ideas while laying in bed. And of course, I get frustrated.

The longer I go without sleep, it is like the more my body forgets how to sleep.

There's nothing strange about it Cory, what you're describing is a slightly manic cycle. Almost all smart, creative people have them.

RyuLion 02-15-2007 10:35 AM

You are low in melatonin. Take some so you don't get insomnia.
Alcohol kills your bodies melatonin, we webmasters need it..

I do a lot of that at night when I can't sleep. It comes in waves. That is why the site sometimes goes a couple weeks with no updates. I never update just for the sake of updating.

But the more I work at night, the more my body seems to want to stay up.

You think it is possible you were just forgetting your dreams?

Zoose 02-15-2007 10:46 AM

I have occasional bouts with it too. Unfortunately I haven't found anything that truly works all of the time aside from doing physical labor 8 hours a day. Tylenol PM will usually make me pretty tired, but if my mind gets racing it doesn't actually get me to sleep. Alcohol I usually outlast. Ambien didn't do shit for me. Rubbing one out or getting laid helps sometimes. I either just fight it by laying there with my eyes closed and mind racing til' I'm eventually so mentally exhausted that I pass out, or try to find something interesting on TV to get my mind to slow down and concentrate on something much slower paced. Having lots of lights on seems to help too for some reason.. it seems backwards but as soon as I turn everything off it's like my mind sees a green light and starts racing again.

Good luck with it.. it can be a real pain in the ass.

It is wild. It comes on for no reason. I just lay there thinking of ideas for work, or things to write, etc.

Any of the longer, more popular pieces on Midget Army were written during bouts of insomnia.

_andy_ 02-15-2007 10:56 AM

My Dad tells me there is no way you will ever have insomnia if you get up at 5:15 and work out everyday. I haven't quite been able to get into that routine yet though...

jryan89 02-15-2007 11:05 AM

hard anal sex with a hot bitch is the way to go! u will be exhausted!

Mohawk Steve 02-15-2007 11:14 AM

A few years ago I used to stack Melatonin and Kava-Kava and get some bad ass sleep. I've used Valerian Root to aid sleep too, and although it smells horrible, it worked pretty well.

OMG Jim 02-15-2007 11:21 AM

Cory have you ever heard of someone being a "Napper". Right out of college I worked with a Domino's Pizza franchisee who was highly intelligent, naturally high strung and a workaholic insomniac that could not buy a goods nights sleep so he decided to take a different albeit unconventional approach to his problem.

Instead of trying to train his body to sleep on a certain schedule he decided to let his body tell him when to sleep and when he got tired no matter the time of day he slept. Of course being your own boss and having control of your time would be a necessity for trying this.

He found out that by going ahead and taking a Power Nap as he called it that he overall had even more energy and more focus. It worked for him because I spent a year trying to keep up with him and the guy was a machine.

I know you're looking for some ideas outside the box so I thought I'd throw my :2 cents: in. Buy they way it was nice spending some time talking with you at breakfast in Hollywood last week. I'll contact you soon to discuss some business. :thumbsup

starpimps 02-15-2007 12:04 PM

go out and pick up a bottle of 5-HTP
take that for 3 days and you will be sleeping like a baby

TG Rebecca 02-15-2007 03:11 PM

good luck, whatever you do. i have had problems with insomnia for the last five or six months. i have tried so many different things (non-medicinal), and i have also tried four different prescription medications from my physician, and none of them have helped me at all. i've just sort of learned to deal with it i guess. :(

do let us know if you discover the cure!

perfectodollars-gabrio 02-15-2007 03:39 PM

well, i would try some herbs like few ppl suggested here, those natural ones you know, then you can try reading something or working as much as possible....sooner or later you'll be tired...
