Tipping can be insulting :2cents

I do it as little as possible.

mattz 02-11-2007 05:04 PM

no never, they get paid to do the work that they do

interracialtoons 02-11-2007 05:11 PM

I'm glad other people don't tip because that makes my tip worth so much more and explains whay I always get free stuff, never wait in line, get the "brand new" equipment, get invited to parties, etc...etc...

Works for me.

Well, I don't know how things are today, but back when I was working for the telco I got laid a lot. Of course, sex wouldn't kill you back then.

This is something I found pretty annoying on South America.

Get out of a taxi and some random person runs up to open the door and expects a tip. Get your groceries and someone runs up to put it in a bag and expects a tip. Go to walk into anything and someone decides to open a door, park your car and pay a fee orelse your car gets scratched to shit. Granted it wasn't much money, but fuck me - need to carry around a few thousand coins every time you went outside...

As others have said, here in Australia, we only rarely tip - maybe for restaurants but only if the service is good or waittress is hot :winkwink:

u-Bob 02-11-2007 05:34 PM

I never tip.

NFI how you deal with it. We ended up not making eye contact and pretending we weren't going to walk into a building or get out of a cab etc etc...

The Sultan Of Smut 02-11-2007 05:51 PM

TIP = To Insure Promptness, I don't think the cable guy qualifies.

quantum-x 02-11-2007 06:25 PM

More than happy to be a Non Tipping Australian.
Tipping should be out of choice.

I'll give movers a cold beer, they seem to appreciate that more.

Everyone else can fuck off. Including those annoying hotel attendants. I can carry my own luggage, thank you very much.

edit: forgot about taxi drivers, I always tip them because when I am in a taxi it always means I am drunk.

The bathroom attendants probably piss me off the most.

The bathroom attendant deal takes it to an entirely different level.

I am sure many of you have heard of KROQ in Los Angeles, it is the station that put Sublime on the map. A couple years back, their morning show was about tipping. Not one person that called in, or on the show, thought the bathroom tipping situation made any sense. One of the DJ's said he refused to tip them even when they refused him soap.

It's just dumb. How many $34 bottles of Grey Goose do you have to turn for a $300 profit before you can afford to pay your bathroom attendant enough to not need tips?

And it goes beyond the actual money, for me, it is just a pain in the ass...standing in a bathroom trying to work out what bill to give the guy...and of course, you GOT TO MAKE SURE HE SEES YOU or the tip is nill and void.

MandyBlake 02-11-2007 06:34 PM

usually not...but if they're doing something that is really helping me out or really difficult and annoying i will.

Juicy D. Links 02-11-2007 06:37 PM

I tipped the cable guy but b4 he started working and we were doing the walkover of what was wrong , i slipped him a $20 and told him to check out the signals and lines and such...

Well he went above and beyond man this was like 2 years ago , he swapped my modems for the newer shit , redid terminations , boosted some shit up on the pole and so on...

Juicy D. Links 02-11-2007 06:38 PM

Also at the club always tip the Valet guy a nice sum and tell him to leave your car upfront .... this way he keeps eye on it and the broads get wet when they see your ride

Juicy D. Links 02-11-2007 06:39 PM

i like to tip escorts a bit more if they went above and beyond and massaged and licked my goooch nicely

Juicy D. Links 02-11-2007 06:39 PM

the guy in the bathroom with the cologne gets a good tip cause i always wind up spraying 1/2 his bottle on myself.

Juicy D. Links 02-11-2007 06:40 PM

i tip the gas guy also if its cold as fuck and i am too lazy to get out and pump my own gas

Juicy D. Links 02-11-2007 06:41 PM

i tip extra also if the chick swallows without gagging

Cory W 02-11-2007 06:41 PM

So should I pull over on the freeway and tip the construction workers when it is raining?

without roads, we are going nowhere.

Shoot, I thought I was the only one who did that, for the exact same reasons hehe

Why not tip at a fast food joint?

exactly, I often think that if people were allowed to tip at fast food j oints the service actually might be better!

Cory W 02-11-2007 06:55 PM

When I was a waiter in Hollywood, I bought off everyone. I bought the bartenders, the hostess and the busboys. And they made me more money because of it. I got to pick out who they sat in my section, the busboys ran my food from the kitchen before other entrees went out and they cleared my tables first, the bartenders got my drinks out faster.

I get that. Getting extra. How life works.

But if your job is to make a cappucino, why on earth should I feel I need to tip you for making one? Should I feel guilty for ordering one and making you run the automated maker? Did I get tipped when I flipped burgers at McDonalds?

crockett 02-11-2007 07:03 PM

Is it not the movers job to move you? You act as it's no big deal to tip them when it's their job to move boxes and furniture. So why not tip the cable guy if he did a good job?

Dude, I tip the movers because I think I am supposed to.

I don't tip the cable guy because I don't think I am supposed to.

Cultural man.

I have no idea to be honest. I think it all is a crock for the most part.

Sly 02-11-2007 07:12 PM

How many of you tip a mechanic? Most people get "a mechanic" after a while. Somebody they trust or somebody they like for whatever reason. How many of you tip him? My dad has been a mechanic for close to 30 years now, he's never told me of being tipped.

I tip extra good anywhere I eat often. I tip the girls at my hair place. To me, that makes sense. I go there all the time, the tip theoretically should get me better service, and it really does get me better service, especially at the restaurants. But things like movers, utility people, mechanics, gardners, house keepers... so long as they're getting paid, which they are, and I treat them like a human being, which I do... why should I be throwing out an extra 5, 10, 20?

Sly 02-11-2007 07:14 PM

Here's one thing I love... trying to tip someone and they can't take it! Its great! I've tried tipping people at the grocery store a few times because they went out of their way to help, putting groceries in the car, etc, and they aren't allowed to take tips.

ProjectNaked 02-11-2007 07:41 PM

I left my .45 on a table when I was getting our house hooked up. It was the fastest install I have ever had. Guess he didn't like guns :)

A cable TV worker in Orange County where homes are $500,000 gets paid $15 hour.

Last time a cable guy worked at my home I gave him some cokes and $20 for the great job he did hiding all the cables. As he left he gave me some extra USB cables and two extra remotes. :thumbsup

RyuLion 02-11-2007 08:25 PM

minusonebit 02-11-2007 09:18 PM
