To Catch A Predator -

Regarding that show called To Catch A Predator..... would all those predators have to give NBC the right to use that footage or can NBC use it without getting permission? Can any of those guys sue?

It's shot in a house that NBC rented and rigged with cameras. The young girl entices the guys to come visit with her and have sex with her. Once they arrive...they are questioned by Chris Hanson from NBC Dateline and cameras are rolling the whole time. When he lets them leave, they are arrested and charged - all caught on tape and shown on TV.

Yea, I agree Dave. Just wondering though about the legalities of how that works and if any of those guys could sue. That show is broadcast all over the world probably and even has reruns on some of the cable channels. Could cause a lot of embarrassment, stress, hardship and really fuck up someones life....maybe even put them in danger from some people in the community who would want to kill them. I'm not saying that they don't deserve it, I'm just curious about the legalities of how that works.

I'd assume that there is no release since I have never seen anyone blurred on there... I mean, I'm sure all of them would have said fuck off if they had the option...

And, that show is borderline entrapment. On Stone Philip's blog, he said that the decoy initiates the sexual conversation in many of the cases. That is pretty sketchy...

I'm not defending the people's actions, but I think that the show infringes on the rights of those people by using a vigilante group+private news+law enforcement to get these people in these situations.

It should be illegal, but obviously it isn't for some reason.

Its shot on private property - belongs to the person who filmed it.

No different than security camera footage in the eyes of the law.
