Does GFY have any good souls out there?
Hello I don't know if any of you have read about my situation on GFY or not but my husband lost his job about 5-6 months ago after getting his tools stolen.
He was a mechanic on army tanks because when he got out of the army that was the best job he found since he had experience. Well after his tools got stolen it was just an excuse to let him go anyway as they were already letting people go. It forced me to become a webmaster full time but I'm still not really making enough sometimes we can barely afford the basics if we are lucky. It's been a bad year for us. I've managed to get the kids a few things for christmas so that's been lucky thanks to some friends. So here's what I would like to do. I am trying to find a way to get my husband some tools. Our credit is shot after his losing his job and not being able to pay our bills on time so I can't just go down to the hardwore store and get a credit account. I can't tell you how many times he's been turned down for a job solely because of the tools. The last straw was a few days ago when the big tough bastard came home crying. I've never seen the big lug cry before. He's a huge guy, tats and tough. Not the kind you see cry. So anyway, here's what I like to do. If any of you guys have tools to spare that you don't use anymore, can you please contact me on icq 20402228 OR if you would help by sending money to epass so I can get him some at the sears or wal mart so he can GET a job. My epass is [email protected]. I don't know if there is anything you guys can do, but I need to get my husband some tools so he can get a job. Things have gotten pretty bad around here and it's getting worse month to month. Any help would be greatly appreciated in helping make a man down on his luck a man with a job and some tools in his hands again. If anyone wants to know if I'm serious or honest, please icq me and if you decide to donate to help us get tools for my husband so this christmas maybe he can get a job, I'll furnish you with my name and phone # so that you can call me and speak with me if you need further clarification. I know GFY is a rough board, and I may get reamed for this, but I'm hoping since it's christmas time there may be some people out there who may be in the xmas spirit. I figure since contests and free money is so popular on here, perhaps something going for a good cause will be better :-)

Well wratchets, sockets, air tools...he really could use tools to work on large engines like diesels and army vehicles. But he can work on cars too so those sorts of tools would be fine too.
I don't think we can be picky. He can probably get a job at a regular mechanic shop working on cars too, doesn't have to be diesel .

We need at least one asshole in this thread.. I guess I will be it.
If he lost his tools 5 months ago.. why the hell doesnt he take a job (that doesnt require tools) for a week somewhere and make that money back for the tools. A paper route will pay at least $500 for a months work.. and that is only a couple hours a day. hell my financial situation is so fucking bad I puke every day I get up just to relieve the anxiety of working every day 20 hours a day till I am caught up..or die of exhaustion. 5 months is almost half a year..put a boot in the big lugs ass and tell him to drop the pride shit and get a fucking job anywhere if only just to get the money for tools. |

Call me crazy, but there's tons of places that will hire him if he qualifies.
Not all of them require you to have your own tools. There's tons of body shops all over the place. They usually supply the needed tools. Why doesnt he get into something like that? I'm not bashing you, but it seems that your hisband is not doing all that he can.

It's really easy to judge until you've walked in his shoes.
He doesn't really have the skills to do anything else if you really want to know, he's only 24 and he was in the army from the time he got out of high school. The only job that people will even talk to him for is a mechanic. He has applied for other things as well, but to no avail. Perhaps if you have a problem with him not being able to find any other type of job, you will move to Houston and hire him yourself? At least with the tools the people that have turned him down will probably give him a chance. And NO they won't give him a shot without tools. At least, not around here. The only people they are giving shots without the proper tools are Katrina evacuees

I'm not trying to knock you or anything and I do know that it's Christmas so it's always good to help others...
But I couldn't help but wonder, because I rememeber you said in this thread http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showthread.php?t=545000 that you had a good day and made $890 in one day, so even if that's your best day you probably do a few hundreds bucks at day at least, I mean your overal stats have to be at least $300-$400 a day, that's still a lot of money to be asking for financial help on gfy? Sorry if my post is out of place, what you make is none of my business. But I can't help but wonder if you make $890 on a good day you have to be pulling AT LEAST $300-400 on an average day... I think that would be enough to buy tools... I have no idea how much tools cost maybe their like 20k and maybe you also have tons of huge bills too, I don't know so I can't say, but it seems like you're not doing too bad... |

Thanks everyone who was kind enough to help us out. I have enough to get him some of the air tools he needs and some of the other mechanic tools for christmas definitely and will be a great start to helping him find a new job ! Karma comes around so next year if we are doing well I want to do this for someone else who needs it at holiday time. Bless you all .

I can't remember why I came across it, but it was sweet to see gfy people help out this family.
And chica's story made me think of this news bit I saw on cnn the other day about Prosper, it's an alternative to getting credit from a bank, it is peer-to-peer lending online kind of like an ebay for loans. If you need a loan like to buy tools or whatever and can't go to the bank, or you don't want to, or your credit sucks, what you do is go to Prosper and you can list that you want a microloan. Then someone who wants to make some interest on their investment gives the loan to you - and they make the interest on it instead of the bank. Anyway it's prosper dot com. (Yeah, I don't have enough freaken posts racked up to even make the link work. That's why I am posting today, want to hit the magic #30 so I can start posting links. ) I haven't used it myself to borrow or lend but it's an interesting idea.
