Anybody use the Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM?
I am thinking about getting the Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM for my Canon 20D, looks like one sweet lens. Had it for a weekend and really liked it. Any thoughts on the lens?

I'd do the speil about not buying overpriced EF-S lenses because they're incompatible with other bodies, but I can't really think of an EF lens with a similar range ![]() |

If 24mm is wide enough for you then have a look at the EF 24-105mm f4L IS USM. It's a stop slower in wide open aperture but you'll gain an extra 2 or 3 stops from the IS. (If you are shooting something fast moving like sports then f4 may still be too slow; IS just stops camera shake, it doesn't freeze the action.)
The 24-105mm is showing the same RRP as the 17-55mm lens on the Canon AU site. |

It's a pretty good lense IMHO. I own the 50mm EF 1.8 (really cheap and worth it for portraits) and that one you talked about. Great for shooting.

I wish, I don't have that kind of money right now. I also have the 50mm EF 1.8 and it's great for the price.
