5 Choppers Downed in Iraq! The nightmare begins.
A few rants here:
Choppers: I have alway believed that a sign of true trouble for US forces in Iraq would be if the insurgents got the ability to shoot down US helicopters. They've downed 5 of them in about 2 weeks. My threshold for when things were fucked was 1 chopper a week!!!!! This is the begining of a long nightmare for US troops. The choppers protect more troops than anything else; they get troops out of fucked up situations, they bring ammo/food, they attack insurgent strongholds...etc... If the insurgents can keep this pace up(downing choppers) for another 12 months then it will be the end of the Iraq war as US forces will be depleted of resources and we will have to withdraw as US troops get trapped and routed on the ground in spotty battles. Conclusion: We fucked up. We stayed too long trying build a democracy. Killing Sadam and leaving was a viable plan. Installing democracy, "winning hearts and minds", etc... was a grandiose plan formulated by extreme arrogance and ignorance of the determination of the people we chose to fight. Prediction: The next decade will leave the US with an 0 and 2 record in the middle east. Don't kill the messenger! I'm just calling it as the facts appear and not one bit of what I said is my personal desire. It is what it is.
