:stop Australians: Best Bank options for US Cheques

Hey guys.
I know this thread pops up every so often, but I was interested to know who everyone used, and what deals the banks cut them.

I just got home to find that my sister had abused my bank manager at Suncorp, and despite previous agreements, now refuse to cash a cheque for less than $10 per cheque. Looking at the pile on my desk, that's $500 at least.

Which bank do you use, and which ones have cut deals [discounts for volume etc]

Thanks
Simon

I did used to bank with the National, they would let me cash multiple checks for one fee ($10 from memory) and would also approve it right away.

I did have few issues with them (nothing to do with checks) so left them, I bank with Bendigo now 6 weeks for a check to clear and no deals makes me sad I left.

I use Commonwealth bank. If you ask for a brochure of the foriegn currnency policys, most of the banks have a clause in their policy stating that if many cheques are from the same drawer then it's just a one off $10 charge for all cheques. They cannot charge you $10 per cheque.

Westpac...they'll bank 6 international cheques for $10. Sometimes, I slip a couple of extra ones in, but they never charge more.

At ANZ they used to do how ever many I took in for $10, now that state it's $10 per check. If I take in a few from the same place like CCBill they usually only charge me $10. Pain in the ass all the paper work they have to go through.

yup pretty much what i was told - still not the greatest of deals but

although, some bank tellers only give you one charge no matter how many cheques you bank...

When was the last time you deposited a batch, and which state are you in? About a year ago I was getting unlimited cheques for $10, then they raised it to $15, then a few months ago the acting manager (a real bitch) produced a PDS showing that they have to limit it to 4 cheques per $15. She's a bitch because she sent a fucking MEMO to all the tellers to make sure they didn't do more than 4 per batch for my future deposits!

I've been meaning to go higher and ask for a better deal. The manager that gave me the original $10-for-everything deal has long since left.

Bear in mind that if you have zero history with the bank they'll probably impose conditions like a holding period, or forcing you to put it in for collection (4-6 weeks to clear)
