Max width (pixel) for 1024x860

How big can I make the size of a table for example (in pixel) that a user can still see it fine without having to scroll?
Any idea?

In a browser window, without popping one without chrome and scroll bars?

Or trying to take into account unknown chrome and scrollbars?

In either case, I'd look at doing a javascript check for available width and height and then either letting JS write the table or doing an automatic redirect with the javascript width and height appended to the URL to a script that dynamically sets those parameters up.

I dunno.... Just figured I'd bump this for ya with some lame text above

Have you tried setting to a percentage rather than an actual pixel approach ?

Before when optimizing for 800 users I would go 740.
I've now bumped that up to 900, it could go wider to 965 or so and still not have scroll bars but 900 still looks good and in case a 800 user hits it it's not too awful on them.

900 makes more sense to me at this point because there are still 10-15% users at 800 or less. Maybe in another year or so I'll go wider.

yep
thats what i had in mind
i checked w3 and they said its 17% on 800x600 but i dont really care and am no longer optimizing sites for those guys

the 900 range sounds fair and i appreciate the comment.. but maybe there are some exact numbers
