.XXX threat still alive - let the adult industry be heard!

As most of you probably are aware of, the threat called .XXX has been revived. The matter is not getting the response it deserves though, and people who fanatically protested last May now seem largely silent.

As far as I'm concerned, the adult industry is underrepresented when it comes to commenting on this issue, as is to be seen on ICANN's forum:

http://forum.icann.org/lists/xxx-icm-agreement/

Christian (and) parents' organisations have voiced their opinion (that is generally against the proposal), but the group that will arguably be affected most and most directly, adult webmasters, are surprisingly absent on the forum.

While their motivation is purely of a financial nature (think over $70 per registered domain), ICM presents their proposals as if they are doing a service to the adult webmaster community by introducing .XXX, and make it seem like they have your support (which is obviously not true). Adult webmasters need to make it clear to ICANN and the public that this extra extension is unwanted by them!

The least you can do is post a comment by emailing

https://gfy.com/fucking-around-and-business-discussion/693350-wtf-xxx-kicking-time-post-icann.html summarises it best.

ICM has renewed their application for the .xxx extension. ICANN, the commission that assigns extensions, will debate it again and is currently reviewing public comments. The application had been "denied" last May, mostly because of pressure from parenting organisation, the US govt, etc.

ICM claims their extension will help prevent CP and deter pedophiles (nonsense), will prevent children from viewing porn and that the extension is welcomed by the adult industry. It's obvious the extension is a threat to the industry, as, if the use of .xxx becomes mandatory for adult webmasters, their domains could simply be blocked by ISPs, rendering their business worthless. Fees exceeding $70 per domain registration are outrageous and make it clear the whole proposal is financially motivated (by ICM).

Disappointing response this thread has got... I don't understand what this lameness is coming from... It's not like .xxx will help you, or like it'll go away if you don't do anything! Spend a few minutes writing an email to the address provided above, it really helps!

Just stop posting threads about it.
And especially stop posting links to that "pre-registration" site.
You just prove their point with doing so.

Can't those within the Adult Internet community who are in favor of .xxx be identified for all of us to know who they are? Anyone know who they are?

thats a good question

I've found a link where a former journalist, and new ICANN board member tries to convince everyone that the porn inustry supports .xxx"

http://www.circleid.com/posts/anothe...doc_agreement/

Quote:
As for the porn industry. The porn industry was doing what it always does in these situations - watch carefully and turn with the tide.

In fact, ICM Registry had a lot of people - perhaps it’s fair to say, most people in the adult industry agreeing with .xxx. It was only at the very end when the case started turning against .xxx because of US lobby pressure that Flynt decided to come down against it.

Flynt’s letter was then seized on by ICANN to help distract attention away from the US government’s hand in rejecting the TLD even after ICANN had approved it.
The above is obviously COMPLETE BULLSHIT..... you may look up more posts by Kieren McCarthy on that page if interested...

Anyway, personally I think I can't be the only one fighting this shit.

I can increase awarness on GFY, and I can send my letters - that's all.

Im not an adult industry player, neither do I know them on a personal level.
I'm not in the position to tell them how to act now.

PS... Further on that page Kierren claims that ICM guys are straightforward and if someone asked them for the list of "adult industry players" supporting .xxx, they would give it to him..

so .... will anyone ask them?

- Why should I stop?
- What pre-registration site am I linking to?
- Whose point, and what point, am I proving?

It's important that webmasters make themselves heard! The "small guy" can indeed make a difference here, just by sending a comment as outlined above.

Do it!
