Windows Vista Launches Today

As the subject says, the new version of Windows went on sale today. Has anyone done the upgrade (of the full version, not the beta versions). If you have, would you mind letting me know about the search integration, if its integrated strongly with MSN Search (Live.com). I'm curious to see if this new version of Windows will try to capture a larger market share directly from the desktop.

If you go buying a computer with Vista on it, make sure that PC has at least 2GB RAM. Otherwise this fucker is going to be rather slow. And why would you want to buy Vista now when there isn't many programs (games) for Vista?

I'm more interested in the search integration to see how much resources I should be putting into MSN Search. If they do lots of integration directly from the desktop to MSN Search, that will reflect a significant market shift away from Yahoo/Google. That's the portion that interests me.

Only if you insist on running all the effects and performance adjustments... but like XP, you can streamline it to run pretty nicely even with minimal resources.

Don't hate it just for the sake of hating it.... hate it for real reasons.

No, no. I'm not hating it. I love the progress and I'm all the way for it.
I just don't like the very new version of Windows once it comes up. It will have lots of bugs and incompatibilities if I'm allowed to say that. I'd just wait for a about 4-6 months before it'll be stable and convert then.

This new version is going to be totally different, I want to convert to it and be able to use it in full capacity. Just need to wait before the bugs will be fixed. I'm sure that there are bugs.. After all.. Its Microsoft

Pretty good thinking man. I would agree with you when it comes to strategic planning and organizing things for the future. From what I know and my experience with Vista RC1 and RC2, their IE7 was directly 'connected' to live.com, meaning it uses live.com as default search engine, helping engine, and many more. But there is an option that allows you to make google, or yahoo as default search engines.

I wouldn't bet that live.com will take bigger %age of SEM than it does now.

I'd also like to know about popups/consoles if Microsoft has improved their ability to block them or if they're still operational as it was with SP2.

Now that I agree with, I always wait... even the Xbox 360 was worth waiting for. Thank goodness I didn't get one on first release. Same with the original Xbox.

I always wait for people to start and then put out the fires before I jump in.

Here's an idea.. Why don't you buy a machine with vista loaded on and do your own research.

You should have started planning for it a while ago It's built right into the desktop I believe at least that was the plan.

They kept delaying it because their search engine wasn't ready. Now I'm curious if it made it past the final cut or if it will be out in the service packs.

Vista sucks ass...

First, Vista now does a lot of the security for you. This is both good and bad. The good is another layer of protection. The bad is that you get many more messages than before about shit and you cannot say, "This is OK, let THIS happen without asking." You either get off or on...

Next... Driver support... Almost non-existant... MANY vendors do not have 64bit drivers available... Got a dual monitor setup? Most are not supported as of yet (which I learned the hard way)... Got any new cutting edge hardware? It isn't supported either.... Got something more technical then a CD/DVD ROM, mouse, keyboard or printer? Not supported... and most printers are not supported by 64 bit...

So why have a 64 bit operating system if you cannot use it?

Ohh and the new Windows Explorer look... So lame it will make you wonder.. Why did they take something so stream lined and usable and basically turn it into 10 times the mouse clicks for even the most basic things.. Like surfing your own hard drive.

There isn't any integration with live and the desk top really.

But, with the side bar, there's really nothing stopping them from adding a search bar for live, or google, yahoo, are anyone else.

Vrocks, turn off user account controls, and set folder options to classic view

I'm on x64 ultimate right now, no problems with drivers or any software I've used so far

The only dual screen problems I remember reading about was with nvidia and the RC1, and RC2 drivers that came in vista. Pretty sure nvidia released updated drivers.

really cant be more than the default option of searches that can be changed easily. wasnt IE supposed to be less integrated as part of the original settlement?

they really dont want to go into an antitrust battle with someone like google as the plaintiff

Yes, and thats probably exactly why it doesn't come with anything like that. But like I said above anyone could make a gadget search bar for the side bar.

And there's already a shitload of them made by users
