Family and Pets, nothing else matters.

But once they are safe, then you start making stupid decisions like going back in for stuff. I totally get the wallet and laptop answers, which is why you can all come to my funeral, with a tombstone that read "STUPID" :1orglaugh

Happypeekers and Deeprub's house was recently burned to the ground. From what I remembered, NOTHING was saved. Thankfully, they were all gone from the house when it happened so everyone was safe. Sometimes you just have to sit back and be thankful for the things you have an accept the things you've lost.

Exactly... Unfortunately, not all my pets were saved. :( It was the middle of the night and we were all sleeping.

Damn, that's tough :( I have a friend who does A LOT of animal rescue. She has those stickers on her doors that list the number of pets in the house. It's pretty comical "8 dogs, 14 cats, 2 parrots". I can just see the fireman shaking their heads, lol. She's like me though - WAY off the main road.

We've had 6 houses catch on fire in the 30+ years my subdivision has been here. Only one since I've been here, but they've all burned to the ground. Wood is the construction material of choice and with all the trees, usually they just try to prevent spreading.

I just disconnected one of my smoke detectors because it was beeping with a good battery AND with the battery completely out. I put it in the basement bathroom. Now I'm going to go and make sure I get it replaced and get my alarm monitored again for when I'm gone.

Fire is scary shit, IMO.
