to the perl gurus
The more I learn about perl, the more I like it. I've been reading tutorials and making scripts on and off now for quite awhile and I just love the language.
I need to know where I can find some perl tutorials which deal with intermediate topics and/or just general perl related websites which you think would be useful in my quest to perlhood. (Over and above perl.com :P) Thanks |

To be honest I find the quality of most online tutorials to be mediocre. I find that a good book is better - but that may be just me.
"Perl For Dummies" believe it or not is a pretty good review of the most important aspects of Perl. My copy is dog-eared from use. And then I recommend the wrox press Perl books - I think there might be 2 (intermediate and advanced?) to cover more topics more completely. Teaching myself Perl was the best thing I ever did as an adult webmaster - I wouldn't be where I am today without it. So I think you are wise to learn it. When you have Perl under your belt you will want to move on to the next greatest scripting language, PHP. It's the one you want to begin to churn out some truly awesome website applications. More and more it is replacing Perl for complex website interactivity. All those Perl matchmaking and bulletin board scripts will soon be replaced by PHP versions. |
