The subject matter may be dolphins in Japan, but could be another species elsewhere - the effect remains the same.

We may not like sharks as much as dolphins (the "cuddly appeal" is absent), but regularly see the same with shark carcasses. Their fins are hacked off and they are dumped into the ocean again. By the time we see them, most are dead, but have come across a couple making last attempts to swim, but they have no chance in hell. The fins are used for sharkfin soup. Is it illegal? Sure, but that never stopped "civilization"... and this is not on the Japanese side of the Pacific ocean.

Tapirs? Despite being shy and harmless creatures, they get shot by rednecks exercising their macho tendencies and pretending to be "big game hunters" - with AK47's of course.

Monkeys? Sure, monkeys are an easy target for idiots with weapons. The irony is that monkey families have more clue of a social order than the idiots who shoot them. Last time we found three dead monkeys shot for fun - kinda sad seeing these lifeless bodies.

my father is a brown bear guide in alaska and i grew up with "professional hunters" and big game hunters from all over the world. probably 1/2 of the hunters who went on brown bear hunts with them were europeans... of those, at least 1/2 were austrians and germans.

i used to hunt quite a bit... but one time my father went on a Buffalo hunt in Montana and ended up shooting a buffalo that was 3rd in the record books. basically they just chased it in a ford bronco across the prairy until it could't run anymore and shot it. i had to walk into our house everyday with this big fucking buffalo head mounted on the wall next to the door. its hard to imagine the size ... but imagine someone taking a huge refrigerator/freezer and mounting it to your wall lengthwise. that was the first time when i really stopped and gave serious thought to how totally retarded hunting was if you are not going to eat the animal. brown bears are shot for the hide only. i dont know what it costs today, but it used to be 15-20K just for the hunt itself ... not including all the other costs (transportation there, room and board, the taxidermy fees etc) .. and they were shot for no other reason than to just be able to say "yeah, i went to alaska and shot this. we were walking through the brush, i heard a noise and looked up and this huge brown bear was charging us, snorting and growling and trying to kill us.. i shot it and it died at my feet - we were so lucky" ... which is the standard story.

at about 21, i sold every single gun i had. 1000's of dollars worth of hand guns, shotguns, rifles, assault rifles etc because all of the sudden it all left a bad taste in my mouth.

it just seemed rediculous to kill something you don't intend to eat... even more rediculous to kill something with a rifle just to have the right to tell other people that you killed it. it really did kind of make me sick.

but killing a dolphin for food? sure, they are cute. but in this case, they are cute food. its not like they were tortured for 6 weeks and then slowly executed... for fun. being driven somewhere in a truck and having your throat slit so you blood is pumped out of your body in 5-6 heart beats isn't exactly "inhumane" in my opinion. there is no good way to die.

the very sad thing about fucking white people is that you care about a seal... you care about a dolphin. it just makes you sick to see one hurt. it makes you puke... you just can't watch.. you are angry... BUT you don't give a shit if 2,000,000 africans are butchered. you could care less if 300K people have died in Darfur. you don't give a fuck what other attrocities are being committed around the globe and how much people are suffering and how many die. black bear is great. i have shot and ate a lot of black bears. brown bear tastes like absolute shit. i have never thought much about why, basically their diets are the same in most areas... but in others, they do a lot of scavaging on beaches etc so that might be why. but my point was that people don't shoot them for meat or to take the meat or use them in any other way. they shoot them for the skin and leave it where it dies, taking only the skin (and gall bladder as much as any will deny it)

First problem is that you are generalizing everyone in one group. Sure there are people that don't give a fuck but there are plenty of people that do. Why do you think there are so many support groups and support aids? There are people all over the world that see these horrible events and DO something about it. I get just as upset when I see people suffering as I do when I see animals suffering.

i am generalizing, because in general, its true. in general, white people care less about people than they do animals. in general, white people don't mind seeing people suffer and can't stand seeing an animal suffer - even when its being killed for food. in general, its hypocritical to use words like "humane" and "civilized" when talking about killing an animal for food... when people are dying all over the place, all day long... day in and day out and they can be helped.

You want to know why "most" people care more about animals than people? Its because animals are helpless, they keep to themselves and they don't destroy rainforests, or slutter other animals for fun, or torture or any of the other cruel things that "humans" do. Animals just want to live their own lives and they don't fuck with others the way people do.

And there is a humane way of hunting and killing for food. Slicing open their neck and letting them bleed to death is just WRONG and so is raping women and killing children. Anyone that does these types of things is wrong and should pay for it.

your views on animals are simply a wrong and utopianistic view that contradicts reality. plenty of animals kill for fun, for territory, for food. plenty of animals will eat their own offspring. even a beloved cat will torture a mouse for hours before killing it... often without eating it or intent of eating it. animals are animals. but thats ok. cats are cute and we give them a little leaway... and the mice, well... lets be honest, not so cute really when they are hiding under your refrigerator.

although you might find it distasteful to see a dolphins throat slit... causing it to lose consciousness and die in seconds.. what would you suggest as being the perfect way to kill a dolphin? play some soft music, feed it herring, pet it telling it everything will be fine while someone sneaks up behind it with a shotgun and blow its brains out? dead is dead. as was already and quite logically pointed out... there is no good way to die. the end result is always undesirable to the one being processed for food. the means are never appealing to anyone.
