Need Help On Self Home Security Systems

Does anyone know where there's a good place to buy a home security system online ? I'd try places like ADT, but they're not available in our area and I'd like to get something to make me feel more secure about our house because I really don't trust our neighbors.

There's 2 punks and their girlfriends renting the house next door that do drugs and shit, plus one of them is already known for being a thief. We got a dog and play it safe when we run arounde town, but are planning on being out of town later on next month for a couple of days, so the dog won't be here and I'm actually afraid to leave the house alone for thsoe days because they've been in the house when they first moved in and needed to use our phone and must've seen the shit that I have. At first they seemed like decent people when they first moved in, now they seem like assholes

Anyways, what do you people recommend for securing a house ? I was thinking of some of those motion cameras, but still they'd get away with my shit, so I was thinking motion devices perhaps.

Sure, I could be getting paranoid here, but there's been tensions between us lately also, like between their fucking dogs barking all the time, their drug buddies blocking our driveway, and them throwing their garbage in their back yard, so we're not on the best of terms either, he he he.

check them out they have cheap but high quality cameras and all kinds of fun automation stuff. For like $200 you can get 2 cameras, a hookup for your vcr to record, and a bunch of other cool shit. The best part is you can hook it up through your computer for even cooler effects. You can watch your house from live over the net...cool shit.

My husband ahs just finished a program that does this with up to 4 cameras. He has written it for a specific company's equipment here in the UK though, and while I can recommend it as an ASSKICKING program for monitoring your home (mini-spam, sorry), I have no idea how it would integrate with US camera systems.

I have learned (from his few years working in security systems) that it is hugely cheaper to buy the bits and install them yourself than to get ADT or someone like them out to fit it for you. Their monitoring system is attractive I know but then how do you know how reliable it would be unless you actually have a break-in? Big thing is to get an outside alarm box and make sure it is fuck-off LOUD. Make sure they are around when you put it up and test it. That way they know you aren't fucking around.

ROFL, that's a good idea, I'll have to set it up with a "face recognition" program to shot at will if it recognized one of those assholes next door, ha ha ha.

As far as my dog goes, I do have a Pit Bull/German Sheppard mix, he's pretty intimidating to most people, but in actuallity, he's a big pussy, BUT I guess that as long as people don't know that, ha ha ha. I'm mainly worried about leaving town though, the dog will be going to another family member's house, so he won't be around to scare the shit outta people, he he he.

Thanks for that X-10 link, that looks pretty interesting, especially that floodlight camera, that'd come in handy, he he he. I might have to check more into that one. I've been looking around here - http://www.homesecuritystore.com They have all kinds of goodies like motion sensors and stuff, those are what I was looking at, but I'll have to see.

Thanks Miss Laurie, I'll have to dig into that.

Insurance is the most important thing, make a list of everything you got including the shit you don't want. Even better take a pic of all that stuff if you can.

Things like cds are hard to remember how many you had but always get robbed.

Also put one of those car tracking things inside the most obvious thing to steal, dvd player etc. Then you can hunt them down and go Keysor Soze on them.

Did anyone actually stop to consider that when you hook your x10 camera up to the VCR... all they have to do is steal the VCR and suddenly all evidence disappears?

The best solution, monitoring wise, is to hook the cam up to an old PC and have it upload pics to the net, maybe every 4 to 6 seconds. That way they could empty the house but you'd still have evidence... heymatty is right on the ball, tracking devices are a good idea.

If I was going away for only a few days, I'd leave the dog at home and have a member of family come around a few times per day to feed it, fill up it's water bowl, let it out to shit, etc. Unless it would tear the house apart, it is a reasonable thing to consider.

There are also those motion sensoring devices that can be set to bark like a crazed dog whenever they sense movement... alslo, there are the devices that plug into the electrical outlet with a light attached, and can be set to turn the lights on and off at any time of the day or night, giving the impression that someone is home.

Well guys, thanks for the tips here, I appreciate them. I've got my solution, no, it's not the shotgun, ha ha ha. Actually, this looks like a pretty good deal at X10.com and their sale is going on through midnight tonight, so I thought, what the heck - http://www.x10.com/products/x10_ds7000.htm

The way that our house is setup, that should do nicely I only worry about the 85dB siren, I wonder how loud that'll actually sound. I might have to pick up the optional bigger siren or the outdoor siren. I love the fact that it also has a dialer, I'll have to have it bug my good neighbors, he he he. Just as long as they'd be willing to wake up, he he he.

don't make a connections thru the phone lines. all they have to do is unplug your lines at your interface outside.
