Adelita's is fun, but don't go looking for an ATM outside the club, or you will get run up on by the Federales.

I really don't like TJ at all. Too corrupt and I don't feel safe down there.

Sarah_Jayne 01-23-2007 08:31 AM

I was there when I was about 12...I still remember the strange experience of going on foot and going through a turnstile that took you from the first to third world.

XPorn 01-23-2007 08:44 AM

I was down there 2 nights ago....

Gordos for Tacos.....also went down the coast for Lobsters....

All these tips are good....but you'll see the army guys around town as well....M16s in tow.....

Fuck TJ, Nogales rules.

Beginning January 23, 2007, ALL persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling by air between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda will be required to present a valid passport, Air NEXUS card, or U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Document, or an Alien Registration Card, Form I-551, if applicable.

I'm assuming from that if you are driving you can come back without a passport.

Totally agree Cory...

If the comments about "don't pee in the street", "don't get arrested", "don't get in a fight" are indicative of the level of redneck tourism, it's better the tourists stay at home and pee on the streets and get arrested :pimp

Damned idiot tourism :)

The cops are not as bad as everyone thinks. And right now, they dont have guns, so they are even backing off from the way they usually are.

Make sure you and your car are clean of any sort of drug, even one from a doctor, No need to explain.

For night clubs bars and hookers, bring dollars. if you will be shopping, and eating at a few places during the day, stop at any ATM, they are all bank owned, and grap some pesos. it will save you from being ripped on the exchange. Right now it is 11 to 1

I live just south of TJ, so if you want some real info, hit me on ICQ later this evening.

Oh, and bring your Drivers license, and while you really DONT need it yet, bringing your passport makes the return a LOT faster.

I really love third world countries (no kidding). Nothing special about tijuana as far as I'm concerned. I can't believe there are people who book a ticket just to go there, it's about time they see something of the world outside the US...

Sometimes ya got to wonder which are the third world countries :) There is often far more sense outside the industrialised world than in it - and a vastly superior lifestyle.

PS And.. oddly, elements like healthcare can match or exceed those of supposedly wealthier nations - duh?? :)

I just love it when people go “Mexico is too corrupt”, and they don’t even take a look at their own backyard. I recommend you read Capitalism 3.0 by Peter Barnes, it would be an eye opener for you.

Here’s a little excerpt from the book:
Quote:

The timber industry spent $8 million in campaign contributions to preserve a logging road subsidy worth $458 million—the return on their investment was 5,725 percent. Glaxo Wellcome invested $1.2 million in campaign contribution to get a 19-month patent extension on Zantac worth $1 billion—their net return: 83,333 percent. The tobacco industry spent $30 million for a tax break worth $50 billion—the return on their investment: 167,000 percent. For a paltry $5 million in campaign contributions, the broadcasting industry was able to secure free digital TV licenses, a giveaway of public property worth $70 billion—that’s an incredible 1,400,000 percent return on their investment.
And we’re not talking pocket change here. But of course, if it’s out of sight it's out of mind, right?

For those of you who cry “I wasn’t even doing anything bad and the cop extorted me with 30 bucks” that is bull shit. You can’t possible say that and expect me to believe it, you either did something bad and avoided jail cheaply or you’re too stupid and deserve to be robbed like that. And I’ll tell you, Mexican jails are really ugly. If the traffic police stops you (it often happens) and you did nothing wrong, you’re doing everything by the book and have nothing to fear, you can tell the cop to give you the ticket, you take it to the judge and make your case, the judge wont make you pay that fine, as simple as that. But on the other hand, if the cop stops you and you carry some weed or something, and don’t want the cop to find out, just be amiable, give the cop some pocket change, and move on.

chaze 01-23-2007 04:40 PM

Seriously it is a third world country. Felt like something out of a sci fi movie after a bomb hit LA.

But damn there is allot of hot girls everywhere that want to have sex with you. I mean they grab you, jump on you, it's like the tables are turned for guys.

Also good street music I tipped a guy $40 to play his drums with all the other horn players. Fuckin fun as hell.

Definably will go back sometime. :thumbsup

When my brother got home from getting busted in Nogales he was pissed as hell fuming about "those corrupt pigs!" and "is there someplace I can report this?" The stupid motherfucker got busted with a chunk of blow the size of a golfball and was all indignant that they shook him down for about $33 (all his cash) and his cheap ass watch. I laughed at him and told him it was too bad he didn't get busted in Tucson. I don't know why people get pissed about "corruption" that keeps them out of jail. I personally have never been shaken down by the policia for any reason.

Yep... also, don't act like it's spring break or like you've never been there before. take it mellow. have fun but don't try to be the man with the tequila or with the alcohol in general. Keep your cool and your wits. It can be a fucked experience if you're stupid.

depends what part of san diego. As a reference... from downtown san diego you can be to TJ in about 30 minutes no problem.

TJ is always a fun time. Just don't get so wasted that you don't know what's up and you will have a great time. Go to strip clubs, if you want hit up the red light district and get some cheap hot mexi tail, go to clubs. Baby Rock is the nicest club in my opinion. Depends on what the night though. Looks wise the baby rock is where it's at.

Have fun. :thumbsup

Oh yeah, 3rd world is such an arbitrary term, but for the sake of simplicity I'll just use it. I love "non-western" countries specifically for their lifestyle, ease of doing things and not bothering with irrelevant details, the often friendlier way people communicate with each other (money does have something like a corrupting influence), etc etc. It's dirty? So what, it only adds to the charm and I prefer a dirty street over a dirty mind any time!
