It's all a matter of opinion. I personally love Rush, but millions of people would disagree with me. You know what? FUCK them! Let them listen to Barry Manilow if they want. I'll listen to Rush.

I seo'd my hair yesterday and today it's pr7!

hands down they changed the way music was made stones and zeppelin would have existed without them but i am in on the Rush thing way underrated"Catch a man a fish, and you can sell it to him. Teach a man to fish, and you ruin a wonderful business opportunity."

That's the problem, few here will of listened Sgt Peppers, White Album, Rubber Soul the day they were released. Without that experience the opinion is subject to the influences THE BEATLES had on the music that followed.
The mere fact that people are asking this question nearly 40 years after they split up is testimony the their influence. Who ever asks if of other bands, like Oasis.

Queen was far more inventive, but the Beatles improved with like each new album.Comment

No they were a bunch of untalented hippies ... the only reason that entire generation (around the 1960s) still likes their shit music is because all of them were so high back then that they were trippin. So its only natural that they associated the "good times" they were having back then with the shit music they were listening while getting high.
It would be the same shit if we get all the teenagers of today high every fucking day for the next few years and have them listen to whatever is "hot"" right now (Paris Hilton or whetever kids listen too these days). After a few decades they will still look upon the "good old days" of getting high and listening to the magical tunes of Paris.
Thats my opinion ...
And as for the best rock band ever ...
Pink Floyd or Dire Straits or Deep Purple
OR
If my theory above is right then its the band that i was listening to while growing up and being high ... so its Guns N Roses

Beatles is classics. For me not the best rock band ever, but they are almost the first popular team.Comment

Thinking about you just typed, "a separated music genre ", you cannot compare it. Even before the deaths of John and George they held that spot.Comment

For me Beatles were the best POP band music...Comment

All time? Yes, they have had incredible longevity. It's been a long time since the Beatles recorded and yet they were the #5 artist in 2006 in album sales (Nielsen).

so yer saying 40 years from now the 'back street boys' will be the most influential band ever?

Without a fucking doubt.
P.s. - listening to George's album Brainwashed, the one before his death. He did an amazing job, finally reached the JL/PM greatness of songwriting.
P.s.2 - I was born after the 70's (in turn much after the beatles breakup), thus hippie, etc associations do not apply. Greatness transcends generational gaps.Last edited by AVM; 01-19-2007, 07:06 AM.Comment

musical taste is all subjective opinion. i'm not really a fan of any of those rock bands. for my personal taste...social distortion is the best/my favorite rock band of all time. but i wouldn't expect anyone else to think the same

For all the people who say the beatles weren't necessarily rock? Wrong.
They were rock. They wrote for the stones, and created a demand for an Overseas sound in a (pre)dominantly driven US rock market. In turn allowing an opportunity for all British/English acts, who rarely, if ever had an impact on the U.S. market suddenly receive moderate radio exposure/potentially sales. In the following years of Beatles trail blazing, The Who, Cream, and many many others arrived upon their coattails. Years & years later, the likes of led zeppelin. All easily associated/intermingled with the U.S. rock market. How about English cinema? Do their movies go hand and hand with US releases? Not always. With this? People wanted the latest English band. The Beatles created this mystique.
Really, compare pre-Beatles rock, to post-Beatles.
The Beatles were kings since the days of the clubs. Some edges were rounded out for mass appeal/parents acceptance, but the mid to late 60's showed what these men were made of. Everyone forgets the cavern days, and how "rugged" (doubted) and short their U.S. appearance/trend would be.
In retrospect? Everybody's got a story now...

...stuart? eh, ignore and chop ringo in.Last edited by AVM; 01-19-2007, 07:16 AM.Comment

I saw Black Sabbath in 1978 and they influenced half the audience to leave before the show was over. Ozzy was beyond fucked up and they were sucking big time.
I think Led Zeppelin is more influential than Sabbath, though I agree BS is a very influential band.Unvaxxed, still alive.Comment
