Sony Blocks Porn On Blu-Ray (Straight From AEE Floor)

http://www.sgknox.com/2007/01/11/no-porn-on-blu-ray/

Quote:
Has Sony gone mad? Prominent adult movie producer Digital Playground (site) says it is forced to use HD DVD instead of Blu-ray, because Sony does not allow XXX-rated movies to be released on Blu-ray.

It does not matter how you stand to porn. It is here and it is a massive business. It is also an industry that is an early adopter for new media technology. VHS might not have won with out the adult film industry adopting it.

German Heise has interviewed Joone the founder of Digital Playgrounds at the AVN 2007 show in Las Vegas. Joone says actually said last year he is committed to Blu-ray. Now they announced four HD DVD titles in the United States. In the interview Joone says he was forced to use HD DVD, because no Blu-ray disc manufacturer would make his discs, because Sony was against it and they would loose their license.

If this holds true, Blu-ray is at a major disadvantage and could fail.

Suprising they would do that. I think you would want your new technology to play everything.

that's funny - I was just talking to someone about the HD versus Blu-Ray format war the other day - and they said whichever format porn goes with is the one that will survive

Not all of the HDDVDs are able to be played in standard DVD players. I'd say at this point, it's about 60% or so.

A "format" producer should NOT be able to censor the material that goes onto that media format. It's a fuckin storage device, nothing more.

If this is the case and is true, the battle has already been won.

HD DVD WILL win the battle.

How do you create a bluray movie? I can't see that you need to send the movie to Sony to encode it for you?

Yeah, that's what I thought he was referring to. I didn't think anyone would be dumb enough to think you could play HDDVDs in a standard DVD player.

Blu-ray might be technically better, but it's backed by a bunch of assholes (Sony) who are very much going out of their way to make life difficult on consumers and their competitors. HD-DVD is the more "open" of the standards as things currently stand, and while it's technically inferior (but not by THAT much), I predict it will win out. Of course, you can get drives that will read both formats, so in the end, it might not matter. As soon as those wacky scientists invent dual-format burners, well, that's it, the race kinda fizzles out in to whoever can supply the blank media the cheapest.

In conclusion, fuck Sony.

Fuck Sony and Blu-Ray anyway.

Sony should have made blu-ray an add on for the PS3, but instead, gave gamers no choice, added it in, and bumped the price of the machine up.

The reason we here in the UK are still waiting for the PS3 release (due March now) is because of the stupid blu-ray shit. And the console will cost £425 when released...

I think Sony is using Blu-ray because the discs hold 50Gigs and that will definitely be useful in the future advances for this generations console. The xbox360 is currently restricted to using DVDs which is 4.7 (single) or 9Gigs (dual). For game developers the greater disk space might allow for some cool shit.

Why is Vivid saying in this interview from Nov 2006 they are still using Blu-ray?

http://www.tvpredictions.com/hirsch111006.htm

"Steve Hirsch: We will be releasing our first high-def DVD in the first quarter of 2007. We're working on it now. It will be a Blu-ray DVD..."

Maybe the guy from Vivid is smart enough to own his own manufacturing facility.

i hardly doubt that , unless they wanted to haggle over licencing with sony(the owner of bluray) and the blu-ray disc association , which consists of

That's just really not true at the moment. Most PC games are STILL coming on CD (which are either one or two cds these days) so there is barely a rush to go to DVD. The only 'taxing' games that actually can fill a DVD are of the Oblivion quality and we won't see very many games like that for a while. Dual layer DVDs (I think all 360 games are of the dual layer dvd variety, even though they could easily fit on a single layer DVD) are more than enough to see through the lifespan of the 360. By the time the 360 is ready to be retired the games will all probably be in the same state they are in right now when compared to CD?s (one to two dual-layer dvds) and the next format will just barely be tapped into.

You need a special facility to make the disks, current dvd facilities cant just be updated like they can for hd dvd.
If you dont have licensing for the bluray Sony will just sue you.

They are 20 bucks a disk right now. And a writer is 900.

I remember when dvds were that much too.
Hell I remember when the cassette load 1x cdr drives came out the blank cds were like 15 bucks each.

Sony wont give you licencing, meaning they would be illegal, meaning sony would sue you.

With dual format players being released, does it really matter? If you got a player that does both formats, do you really care that much? I think that LG just took most of the wind out of the format war.

Resistance: Fall of Man for PS3 at 22Gigs almost fills an entire Blu-ray single layer disc. And it's the first iteration of PS3 games. I can't image to see what the next iteration brings.

And porn wasn't the big reason for VHS over Betamax... It was the length of recording... Betamax originally couldn't record over 60 minutes.. So movie producers porn or mainstream couldn't release movies in it...

So everyone bought VHS players that could play the VHS movies that were available first.

It's most likely just junk data @ 22Gigs with actual data being closer to 5-7GB at max. Since there are no PS3 games that are of higher caliber than anything that a 360 has, and consideing both can display @ 1080, AND since MS has no plans to go above a dual-layer DVD for games on a 360, then we can assume that Fall of Man's actual data is closer to the 5-7GB range and the rest is merely filler/junk data.

Idiots!

Didn't Sony learn their lesson with Beta-Max?
